Psychology Experiment #2

Howdy, all. In the interests of getting to know one another better, I've decided to post up two questions (this is the second) that each of us can choose to answer (or not) so that everyone else can get to know us better. Throughout my life, I've found that I can learn quite a lot about a person if they give me honest answers to these two questions. I will put my answers up a bit later.

The question for this thread is:

If you had a genii pop out of your desk lamp and grant you a single wish, what would it be? It does not have to be something possible. (example, a pilot I know wished that he could fly without the airplane around him) The only rule is that the wish has to apply only to you, and not humanity in general (no wishing for whirled peas!) so be as selfish and honest as you care to be.

EXAMPLE FROM OTHER PEOPLE I HAVE SPOKEN TO:

(from a counseling student I knew) I wish I could just look inside someone's head and see what they really mean when they talk to me, because every language dilutes ideas, it seems, and hinders communication.


THIS IS NOT MINE, THIS IS ONLY A SAMPLE

I wish I could see the span of eternity at whatever speed I wish for the entire universe/multiverse.

If I cold choose something, it'd be one of the following 2:
- to live in a world where magic exists and I would be a sorcerer.
- to live until the end of the universe. Not because I am afraid of dying, but because I would really like to know what becomes of humanity and our galaxy. Will we survive for a while? Will we encounter alien life? Will we explore the galaxy? I have the fortune to live in an age where the sky is the limit and we are ever so slowly starting to look outward. But unfortunately, we will never get anywhere truly exciting within the span of my life (barring enormous breakthroughs in science and society).

I know the rules called for choosing one. But honestly, if I could choose, I wouln't know which of those to choose.

Me, I'd wish for an infinite number of wishes, coz 1 just isn't enough.

alright, now that I've got some hot java (indonesian, actually) flowing in my veins, I'm a little perkier and ready to express myself intelligibly.

while it's easy to wish for stuff like immortality or superpowers or the ability to crap c-notes, after careful consideration and years of thinking, it has occurred to me that none of these abilities, while appealing, would actually solve any of the difficulties in my life; merely postpone or delay them.

I have literally been thinking about this for years, and so this answer is not off the top of my head.

If I could have one with from a genii (or whatever) I'd wish for the ability to understand all humans, myself included, completely and thoroughly. I'd wish to grok the human psyche. That's it. If you read my post in the other thread, you'll see that all the people I look up to do this, to varying degrees.

I would wish for the only thing that I have every wanted and that is to know the truth.

I'm going to be the simpleton here.

I just want enough cash to live comfortably for the rest of my life.

I'm happy where I live, with my wife, etc. so the greatest stress in my lif is where I will have the $$$ to enjoy my life and do what I want to.

It was actually great during my recent un-employment I was free to help friend out with things, keep my house in order. I generally enjoyed helping keep the stress low of everyone around me it was great and through this whole period my biggest stress has been how to afford to keep on, do away with that and well...

+1 Have enough already in the bank so that you can help others enjoy life with you.

I'd tell the Genie to get back in the damn desk lamp. Then I'd return the lamp to BestBuy, cheap Taiwanese lamps with Genies popping out of them. Worse than kids toys with lead paint!:rant:

I would wish for the ability to go back in my life and see how things would have turned out if I had made different decisions at key points......

But I'd want it to be selective, some things just shouldn't be known.:w

Can't say I'd make my wish right away, I'd probably mull it over for a few years. Is that an option?:shrug:

I have to say...Wisdom/Knowledge. With that im sure everything else will fall into place.

I'm going to have to go with wisdom and knowledge too. I'm pretty sure that being a wise guy will get me as far as I need to go:cool:

If I couldn't have that, then I'd take Boone Pickens for a mentor and an angel investor:w

I'd like to go way back in time and make some small changes during the Jurassic and then be able to see how things turned out.

Being completely honest...I'd want to be granted unimaginable wealth.

This is quite interesting because I chose Socrates, Jesus, and Moses as my top three role models. These were men that sacrificed themselves for the greater good. Money and other vices had no bearing on their souls. I chose these men because I admire, respect, and somewhat envy their strength. The qualities that they possessed is something I'd like to strive for, but I know that I am too weak to achieve.

I wouldn't wish for anything. My life is as it should be. I'm a Christian (don't worry I don't preach or expect other to believe as I do) and I believe that I am where the lord means for me to be. Every event, regret, and joy has been meant to teach me something. Sometimes The lessons eludes me at the time, but eventually they come to light. I can honestly say I'm happy (most of the time). Would I like to be rich, I am, just not with money. I have what I need to live and I live well. Would I like to live forever, I will, just not the way most mean it (and hopefully not someplace to hot:w, alas I am not without sin). My life is what it is, and I thank the lord for the blessing of waking up each morning and for all that he has given me. End of sermon.

I'd wish to time travel, one way, back the late 1800's early 1900's and have enough money to live comfortably on a mountaintop somewhere.

Dude, don't feel bad. Most serious discussions can use a little lightening up.

I would wish to have gotten to know my grandfather before he died (he died when I was really young)...

I don't have a lot of time left. With what remains, I'd like the ability to "Time Travel." I would like to be able to be at any particular place and time, to observe. In some cases I would make ahem...'adjustments.'
I would LOVE to be in Dealy Plaza on November 22, 1963. I'd want to actually SEE who and what was on the 'grassy knoll,' behind the stockade fence. I'd be there early enough to pick my spot and get the view I wanted. If I had to, I'd go back again.
At other times, I'd make subtle changes. Such as, to be in the hall behind Lincoln's box at Ford's Theatre. When John Wilkes Booth arrived, he'd be greeted by a large man armed with a sawed-off 12 gauge double barrel. As "V" said, in V FOR VENDETTA, "Sometimes, violence can be useful."
Part of this power would be the ability to intantly return to the present.
It would be a VERY interesting way to spend my few remaining years.:nj

I agree with a couple of others... I'd like to know everything. not future stuff, just know the secrets of the universe, the patterns of the stock market to a fault, the most obscure psychological facts and the like.

Of course, this might have the side effect of ending up under communist regime for a 1000 years.
That's the thing about changing history. I believe that in 99.9999% of the cases, it doesn't matter if you step on an ant or not. Usually they don't influence history that much.
But if you change something significant like that, there is no telling how the next couple 100 years play out because the track of history would change a lot.

It could be for the good of things, but there's just as much chance that the worl'd end up worse.
Like assasinating hitler before WW2.
Maybe it would have prevented some of the atrocities. But WW2 was going to happen regardless of who was at the steering wheel. His successor might have made pace with Stalin, and that would have meant the end for the allied forces, leaving us with a lasting third reich. It was a close call as it was already :shrug:

Bruno, I had already considered the possible consequences of such an action. That is why I specified the ability to immediately return to the present. To check the long term results of what I had done.
I wouldn't even think about changing anything within the last 100 years. Becaue the time span wouldn't allow for a long enough evaluation of results.
Booth didn't father any children between the Assassination of Lincoln and his own death. That aspect would not change anything. Lincoln wouldn't have been a father again (I don't think.) The rest of the plot would have proceeded as planned. The conspiritors could not communicate with one another. So the rest of that whole chain of events would have continued just as in fact, it did.
This particular event is one of the VERY few that I would even contemplate changing.
Of course Andrew Johnson would not have become President. But I don't see that as a necessarily bad thing.

this is an easy one..immortality starting at the begining of mankind, i think it would be great to see how the human race started and how it ends and what comes after. plus with immortality wealth would have to follow.
