Try IMDB.com....I looked there and there are some side views...it looks to be a round, capsule-shaped flask (almost like an M&M, not a drum shaped one like for Union Army troops) with a leather case over it.
I also found some pics searching for "movie stills Hidalgo", but none of these are close up shots.
A search for movie props, etc didn't come back with anything either.
