That's an interesting article. It is a shame that people are so sneaky and peopleish. Imagine telling folks the Republican election is on tuesday and the Democratic election is Wednesday. Everyone knows the Democratic election is first. D does come before R doesn't it? Oh god maybe that was last year. Now I'm confused again.

Me too. It's a shame that the protest voters vote for Vlaams Blok but I am a firm believer in the duty to vote.
My ancestors fought and died in order to have a say in politics (actually, 4 generations ago my Belgian bloodline was very well to do, to say the least, so they probably were not among the downtrodden masses) so I don't think it is too much to ask to show up for 15 minutes every couple of years to determine who gets to run the country.

The duty to vote was introduced to prevent shenanigans during the election. No mr factory boss demanding that the workers stay away, no preventing people from voting, no closing up the booths ahead of time...

And that way, the outcome is representative of the actual population and everyone is forced to have an opinion. Of course, they might void their vote, but then that's their way of saying 'I don't care what happens to me'

I am starting to believe that we need to reverse an old Revolutionary War Battle cry to the new Voting Battle cry!!!! From "No Taxation without Representation" To "No Representation without Taxation" in other words show you tax return to vote... Why would non-contributing members of the society be able to decide what is done with our money????
Please don't get all philosophical on this statement and ask about the obvious exceptions.....What I am asking is why if you are on the working peoples doll should you have a voice as to what is done with that money, because obviously your vote is going to go to the candidate that promises you more government programs......
Now this would solve all the voter fraud and other problems with dirty tricks being played,,,,, wouldn't it??? In fact why not just file taxes, and vote at the same time, think of the money we could save????

But this is bad stuff, but it has always happened on both sides, and always will. Now what would really be nice is if we went to a national election. I'm a republican in MA - I don't feel like I have a vote.

sixgun, that is a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. since the forefather's intended voting be made by land holding working people it makes sense that people that contribute get to vote. my mom is a McCain freakaholic, and unable to listen to any reason. swears obama is not a us citizen despite thorough investigation into the matter by legit sources. only watches Fox news and You tube. she is out in nevada right now campaigning for him. she has worked about 4 years of the 31 I've been alive. really, I love her but people like her shouldn't be allowed to vote. hell, she complains about illegal immigrants stealing her jobs. what jobs!?

if you can get somebody to put the legislation forward I'd vote for that. I pay my taxes, I've paid taxes since I started working at 16. almost half my life.

Typical of the NY Post. It's a Murdoch paper, and obviously will stoop as low as necessary to support the right wing candidate of their choice.

In this case, they seem not to know the difference between "voter fraud" and "voter registration fraud."
