just read this from yahoo news.....incredible ah?
"Exxon Mobil shattered its previous profit records by posting its biggest quarterly profit ever for the recently ended third quarter.
Exxon earned $14.83 billion for the quarter, or $2.86 a share, up a whopping 58 percent from the third quarter of 2007.
Revenue was 137.7 billion, up from $102.34 billion in the year-earlier period."
Sorry, just out. Ex rate is £1.00 = $1.57 equating to $6.99 per gallon
Got ex rate from here.
AND.....If I paid in $ to fill my measly 50 litre fuel tank it would cost $85.56 as I have a diesel car and diesel is currently £1.09 a litre!!!! :td
I think most of that expense is taxes imposed upon you petrol. the London rate for a barrel is $57.20 and the New York exchange has a barrel at $60.55. Bloomberg.com: Energy Prices
You guys actually get your oil cheaper but your governments tax the heck out of it.
Matt
P.S. correct me if I'm wrong. I know there is no shortage of people here that are willing to do so.
Matt's right. More than half of the UK's gasoline price is due to the tax: £0.57 per liter compared to an avg of $0.28 per gallon tax in the US
