I love it! I am talking the real deal black licorice. If it is any other flavor it isn't the real deal!
I even love the salt licorice that I have tried from holland. Here are my favs:

Oh yea man those Pandas are very addictivationalistical. I've been diggin some Italian ones that I pick up in Bridgeport. One is golia liquirizia Perfetti golia liquirizia - fiuta i prezzi su Dolci e confetture
The other is very spicy little black pellets in a round can called Tabu. Here's a treat for you. Check out this delisciouso website: Liquirizia Purissima
I love it! I've had some crazy licorices from around the world- too many to remember for me. I do recall an Italian licorice in a whitish pellet form that I hated lol. Right now I have some Australian stuff by Darrell Lea that is actually very good.
Panda is pretty good. Also Rob, it's not Zout Drops (salt drops) but zoute drop (salty licorice), the name is a simpmle discription of what it is.
My favorites (all dutch ones)
- Oldtimers lichtzoute hindelopers (lichtly salted dearwalkers)
- Oldtimers zoethoutdrop (sweetwoodlicorice)
- Muntdrop (coinlicorice because it's in the shape of a coin)
- Dubbelzoute drop (double salty licorice)
- Schoolkrijtjes (schoolchalk, a licorice covered in peppermint)

Dutch licorice is the best. I am partial to the soft black ones. either salty or sweet will do.
You would not believe the flavors and variations you can find in a regular convenience store in the Netherlands. Probably as much as types of beer in a typical Belgian convenience store (a lot).
Have to agree on the Dutch licorice.
When I go to my home town in Iowa, which is not too often any more, I always stop in the Dutch community of Pella, 14 miles away. I load up on licorice and a few other treats that I grew up enjoying.
My father and his family comes from Holland, so we're very partial to Dutch licorice - pretty well any of it! Coins, farm animals, zout, double zout...just about anything! Luckily, we have a dutch grocery imports store in town, so I can get them whenever I (or my family) wants! :y

The added benefit of having some zoute drop (Thanks Alex!) is that hardly anyone asks you to share in the states! More for me! For those who don't know, it isn't regular salt. Atleast the salt licorice I have had has usually had a sort of ammonia type note to it. I think it is ammonium chloride. I love the stuff when I can get it. The soft Aussie licorice is my second favorite. Right now I am really hooked on the Panda Herbal. I also forgot to mention that I like tyrkisk pepper when I can find it.

I think the double-zout drops are the absolute best for a sore throat - the salt acts as a disinfectant, and tastes much better than gargling with salt water!

My boss brought some salty licorice back from Denmark, but I must admit the name put me off a bit.

I tried German licorice once and couldn't swallow it. Is Dutch licorice all that different from the deutsch?
That's like asking if Dutch beer is all that different from German beer (or English beer to American beer)!
Yes, I think that there is a distinct regional flavour.

I'm the only one in my house or extended family that likes Dutch licorice. For those in the states this is a good source. My favorite is the "Drop 2000" which has a sweet, herbal flavor.
As much as I've wanted to like them... the salty ones are still a "challenge".
i love licorice but have never tried the dutch stuff. that will have to be the next thing i try, any recomendations on what kinds to try and where to get it?. i have noticed that when it comes to licorice i have never met anyone who just "kinda" likes it, it seems that you either love it or you hate it, that is just what i seem to have notced

I used to work for an american company in Florida and when we had a meeting over there we used to bring some over in different flavours. Some people didn't really expect the bitter licorice:eek:...

Granted their licorice tastes like crap, but I'm sorry, their chocolate is the best in the world. I guess I'm not so far removed from the boat that I don't have some pride in German chocolates:shrug:Quote:

I think so! Natural Licorice root is so sweet I only actually taste it on my sweet taste buds! So strange but it really only feels like I have something on the sides of my tongue. I enjoy the root too Chris, but it is a mild laxative so I don't go after it too often.Quote:

There is the original Switzer's Licorice Sticks. I used to place boxcars in and out of their plant in St. Louis back in my railroad days. The plant is not there anymore. I don't know where they make it now.

Ok, had to dig this one up... because of everyone talking about Panda licorice and because I always see it at the store I had to finally try it...
I'll say it... Panda licorice isn't that good.
Frankly it tasted about the same as what jelly belly calls licorice. Seems like a diluted Americanized flavor honestly. Sorry.
I would like to try some good strong European licorice some day, but for now, my favorite is English Allsorts!
I am from Norway, so some of my favorites are Norwegian.
Here are the good ones: Panda, School chalks, The glazed "caplets" (they sell them in the US too) and IFA
The AWESOME ones: "drugstore licorice" (hard crystaline sticks that have a very strong taste, not too sweet, not too salty, but very much licorice) and "mouse crap" the same stuff only each piece is about as big as those made by mice.
I might have to make a licorice sampler....hmm......
Who would be interested in a Dutch licorice sampler? I'd put in many different kinds in a standard package. It depends on how many people are interested in this though.
