Yes , you should get a pro to look at it.Termites will try to patch up holes just like that.

Pshaw! That's nothing. I turned on my dishwasher last summer and the heat caused a literal swarm to empty out from behind the wall on to my kitchen floor. It looked like a scene out of Indiana Jones. The whole floor was moving. I called my landlord and his reply (honest to God) was "give em an hour. They'll go back in the wall".
We've got little patches of dust that appear sporadically all along the floorboards- look like a tiny little anthill.
I've been inspecting my wooden furniture for any signs of trouble pretty frequently and documenting with photo evidence the damage in the house in case the landlord tries to blame us for all the damage. As long as you don't have anything too nice, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
+1 on the dirty neighbors. My roach problem has dropped to next to nothing since the slob next door moved out.
When is this housing market going to hit bottom so I can get out of this dump? :D
