The Critters Are Sick

Damn! Basil has kennel cough and is walking around hacking and wretching all day and night. Mr.Toes has a urinary condition which has him climbing up onto me whenever I sit or lie down to squat on me and demonstrate how he has difficulty urinating. Of course they are both irritable:

Anybody got room on a couch for me for a few days?

i got 3 couches, feel free. I feel you on the vet bills, i just got done paying for when my dog ripped the bottom of her foot open. If i hadnt wrapped it up for the night and waited till monday it would of been about 3 times as expensive to do during emergency hours.

For the record, i thought i could stop the bleeding, not that i didnt wanna pony up the dough, as much as it pains me, she is worth it.

You wouldn't find our house too peaceful these days either, I'm afraid. But I feel for you and the critters. Have they got prescriptions going?

(Speaking of which, if anyone needs oral antibiotics given to a parakeet, just let me know. I'm an expert now ... one of those things you just don't think you'll ever need to learn when you're a young guy starting out ...)

Oh dear, pets have a way of getting people worried don't they. My cat went missing for 3 day recently, then shortly after started limping for a few days. I suspect he does these things deliberately.

Not sure if this is relevant, but sometimes cats pee on their owners to get attention. The cure is to completely ignore them as if nothing is happening and they soon give up trying to get attention that way. Ignoring it is easier said than done if they spray directly in your face though.:rofl2:Luckily I've only read about this, never experienced it.

Mr.Toes (the cat) is in hospital now getting intravenous antibiotics for urethral inflammation.

I hate to see kids and animals sick. I don't know why but it breaks my heart.

I know what you mean--I hate to see it too. And with five kids and ... um, I don't know how many, I don't have that many fingers, but lots of animals and birds over the years, I've seen a lot of it.

Hope Mr. Toes in particular is soon home and feeling better, and that Basil's cough subsides as well.

The cat is still in hospital.

It is interesting that the cat is there because he on several occasions monday demonstrated urinary distress. At first I ignored him as he seemed to just be sitting in an odd manner next to me wherever I went. But then, apparently irritated by being ignored climbed up onto my chest as I was loafing on the couch looking at television and squatted as if to pee on me. It was undeniably a demonstration intended to call my attention to his problem. I never gave cats credit for that sort of reasoning ability but the doctor has said to me, "Everytime I go look at him in his cage, Mr. Toes goes to the litter box and demonstrates that he has trouble urinating." I still can't believe it.

That Mr. Toes is using his "urinary infection" to dsitract you from his plans to either take over the world or perhaps kill you all in your sleep is very telling. There is no limit to how far he'll go!
Hope they are both feeling better soon. When my animals are sick, it breaks my heart. When my daughter is sick, it absolutely slays me. I would cut off my own fingers to ease her pain 1%.

Cats are very smart indeed. My parent's cat is best at showing them when it is time for them to go to bed or when she wants to be stroked with the cat brush: she comes wherever my parents are - especially my mother -, and without a sound, just stares at my mother until she follows her, either to the sleeping room (the cat usually jumps on the bed and stares again at my mother) to signify that it is time to go to bed (if you refuse, she will follow you everywhere and do the same trick again and again until you go to bed), or to the bathroom where she stares obviously in the direction of the cat grooming box (and if you just try to play with one of her toys, she will just look at you with a "you fool you really think you'll get away with that trick" exasperated look...

Cats don't have plans to rule the planet... they already are... they have just plans for us not to notice it...

A friend's cat went through the same thing recently. The vet told him to stop feeding the cat fish either canned or fresh. Some cats are or become susceptible to developing crystals in the urinary tract from eating fish, among other things and the blockage follows. It can be very serious. Glad you caught it in time.
