How about tools for making knives? I don't know that there's a knife/sword made that I would be comfortable blowing $900 on. Maybe several, but not just one!
Yup, I'm excited for my custom coming in sometime this year!:D:D
A long time in the making, but completely worth it. As for the 900 though, you can only buy a knife with that. LOL. His swords aren't cheap, so don't go bugging him unless your really really serious.
I'd get a Hinderer XM-18 & have plenty of change. My imagination on knives just can't stretch to $900!
Rick Hinderer Knives
If i went crazy i could get two. Different colours to suit my shoes maybe!
Tough question. I think I'd just buy a whole bunch of damascus and make them myself untill I was satisfied with the final product....which would probably never happen. But for $900 I can buy quite a bit damascus.
If I had to buy a finished knife I'd buy a William Henry I think. Or a RockStead. I think they're the ultimate user folders.
ROCKSTEAD. ISHIDA INDUSTRIAL Co., Ltd zdp steel, rockwell 67 (!!!!!!) tough as nails. The guy that makes them does cutting tests at knifeshows and believe me they can take the abuse. (He's this Mr. Miyagi type little japanese guy that hardly speaks english and just radiates trustworthiness)
Funny question. I save up 1 and 2 euro coins every week, with the idea that I can buy something horribly expensive without having to feel guilty. But my ideas change over time, so I never actually buy anything really expensive.
At this very moment, if I had that money as pure spending money, it'd be a quality iaito for solo sword practise when I get to that stage of my training:

Before that, it would look really pretty on the wall. Not to mention that in 12 years time, it would be visible on the living room wall for all potential boyfriends to think about before they think about trying to get their filthy hands on one of my daughters :medvl:
Here is a beauty for only $800 Great Lakes Custom Knives - Knives by Greger Forselius - Short Skinner
My good friend and co-worker Eddie Lombi was a knifemaker years ago. He made the early Tom Brown Tracker knives and still has a few. I am betting that if I offered him $900.00 for one he would probably give it up. Here is an example of what they look like now. The ones that Eddie made are far superior to what these are in looks if not in performance. I can't speak to that.
I think I might have to go with a William Henry I've had my eye on. Either that or I'd use it (probably as a partial payment) towards a one-off custom.
Well, thanks for all the suggestions. I finally decided to go with 3 Jeff Morgan damascus fixed blades. one has buffalo horn scales, one with iron wood scales, and one with curly maple scales! Each knife is 6 and 3/4 inches long overall!
So, what do you think?:w;)
There are subtle differences in the shape of each blade. I like the shape of the one on the left with the horn scales best!
Overall I like the one on the right. Figures you would go for the one on the left and I would go for the one on the right. :D
I would have bought a set of kitchen knives from Butch!
and bought a case of beer with the change :)
I´m not shure, if 900,- is enought, when I look at this site:
Knife Art Custom Knives, Damascus Knives, Custom Knife, Custom Knives :gaah:
900,- $ would I invest in some tools for an forge, so that I can make my own damascus stell and knifes ;)
The maker used a portion of metal derived from a meteorite to make this damascus.
Well if you're gonna go there, $900 is dirt! I have a thing for automatics (we used to call them switchblades). Here's someplace where you can drop four large on a toy I can't even legally own in my state: ProTech Knives - Custom Knife Gallery Here's a gallery of various knife makers' work and I can't even narrow it down to my favorite ten!: The Custom Knife
Just for fun?
Coltellerie Livi - Rasoi da barba - Rasoio , lama inacciaio al carbonio Takeda Hamono e corno alce - carbon steel Takeda Hamono and elk horn
and
Coltellerie Livi - Rasoi da barba - Coramella /strop classica con telaio e manico inox, smontabile con possibilità di ricambio da noi fornito
but with a different handle.
They're not really my kind of thing but they're nice enough. Although the fit and finish of the bolsters etc looks a bit rough. (Might just be the foto though I don't know)
I'm working on my first Damascus knife, I'll let you have it for a measly $800 if you want it :D
I'm not really a knife guy, but something like this looks wicked cool!

as for it being $900, probably not. Here's the description:
The Aztec used knives such as this one to cut out the hearts of their sacrificial victims. This sacrificial knife has a stone blade made of chalcedony (a type of quartz) that would have been honed to razor-sharpness for a sacrifice. The wooden handle, carved in the form of a crouching figure, is inlaid with a mosaic of turquoise, malachite, and fragments of shells.
I didn't mean to sound overly critical the scans just didn't show it well But I'll definately take your word for it.
As my knife is almost finished and I didn't take a lot of pictures I won't be having many of those. But I can give a few pictures and LOTS of text if you like.
I have a short video of the heat treat for the 1st knife I made though, which is the same kind of method I did on the 2nd and 3rd.
(I probably won't be selling it though. It's my first time working with damascus, not forged, stock removal method, and I think I'd like to keep my first time. It's only my 3rd knife so far.)
Excellent.:D
Congratulations on your purchase then:rock:
I just talked to the maker of these knives and he tells me that the steel he used to make the damascus was nickel, 1095, and a little bit of meteorite. I will be meeting him for the first time next week and I am really looking forward to it!!!
Nine new straight razors, of course!
Razor related for $900... I can't think of any particular razors that I want at the moment, so I'd prolly invest in some restoration tools. Buffing wheel, tumbler, band saw, drill press, and gear to de- and re-pin. Not that I'd have anywhere to put all that stuff.
...Oh yea, I don't have anything over 8/8 yet, so maybe a 9/8 and a 10/8. I think at that size, I'd want half hollows.
