Anyone else having their Firefox browser crashing often? It has been happening with mine frequently the past week or more. I think it may have something to do with my running NoScript but I'm not sure what is going on. It is very annoying. If it is a bug I hope they fix it soon. Other than that it may be my PC. I'm running Kubuntu OS.
No such thing here. Running XP though.
I'm running xp pro, firefox 3.0.10, and a few addons including scriptblocker (one of my faves, alongside AdBlockerPlus) no probs out of the ordinary here. have you tried shutting scriptblocker down?
No I haven't. I have been happy with it for so long that I have a hard time imagining life without it. I may need to do a fresh install of the Kubuntu. They recently updated to a newer version and a lot of things changed in it. Maybe the bugs aren't worked out yet or there may have been a glich in my update.Quote:

Fine here with NoScript and AdBlock Plus running. Firefox 3.0.10 under XP.
SRP website can be slow at times, but it's about the only site where I permanently allow ads and disable NoScript.
A fresh install is almost never needed. After all, it's Linux, not Windows. And certainly for Firefox, you don't need to do that. What you might want to try, though, is run either of the following commands, and create a new profile. See if the problem persists. If not, there is a problem with your current profile:Quote:

I am running Fedora Core 8 and the latest Firefox. My Firefox also crashes frequently. I started using Opera. It crashes, but less often. I do not know if it is the browsers or the ext3 file system. I was thinking about switching back to ext2.
I also use Noscript. I was wondering if I should disable it and see what happens.
I ran Fedora core 5 with Firefox and noscript with no problems a couple of years ago. Switched over to Kununtu at home and Mint at work running noscript. They were very stable and dependable. This crash thing only started recently. It happened on the box at work once just the other day. It may be a glitch in the latest version of Firefox or Noscript. :thinking:

I don't know Jim. Last night I sent Robin's post to my sys ad buddy to walk me through the procedure. He told me to right click on the desktop, click on 'run command' and type firefox - g and hit the return key. So firefox opened and it ran fine for the rest of the night with no crashes. I did the same thing this morning and so far so good. All this is supposed to do if I understood my sys ad friend correctly is enable me to send an accurate report in following a crash if it were to do so. So far so good as far as the stability goes. :shrug: Knocking on wood. :)
EDIT; I didn't knock on wood hard enough, five minutes later it crashed. :rant:
I'm running both Ubuntu (Jaunty) and XP with firefox, without any problem.
glad it is working for you and hopefully will stay that way, one thing I noticed with certain Linux distros is Firefox won't update to newest version sometimes when it is available by going to menu bar> help>update firefox, instead you have to do it manually from mozilla site which if I remember isn't that hard at all
For the last couple of years this box had a partition with XP with the dual boot into Linux. Both with Firefox as the browser of choice. I prefer linux to windows but due to the proprietary nature I liked having it when I needed or wanted to use it. So one morning I booted up in XP to find my Avast anti virus non functional. Long story short I had picked up a virus last time out and it also disabled the XP protections. So I overwrote the partition and the hell with Windows. The instability to the linux began at roughly the same time so perhaps the no good SOB that sent the virus somehow corrupted my linux ? I don't know if that is possible. A friend who is a systems administrator with 30 years experience says no.Quote:

anyhow if as you say that is when the problems began occuring I would say 1 of 2 things happened either the format of the old partition was not 100% successfull and or more likely there was and or is a bad sector on the hard drive which could also contributed to your windows problems, you can test the hard drive and if there is a bad sector you may be able to block that sector from being written to or in worst case scenario you will know that is the issue and you need another drive
as far as infections going from windows to a linux distro, I have read where some now are possible to go from one partition to another or infect a Virtual Machine but so far that is only by security researchers and nothing in the wild, so as your friend said that is extremely unlikely
Thanks Jim. I saw your earlier post and I replied and then the computer froze. The reply went the way of the chiracuaha. I sent Scott the terminal readout and he gave me something to go with. I appreciate you input and I will run it by my sys ad buddy who is better able to understand and act on the information.
I've been opening in a terminal with the command firefox - g . This leaves a record of the crash. I had one yesterday which was a freeze up and left more than I can put in a post.
This morning my browser crashed three times in an hour and each time the terminal readout was Segmentation fault . On the last crash a window popped up asking me to send a report to [email protected]. It read, "The application Plasma Workspace (plasma) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)"
Any thoughts ?

definitely memory related, not to over simplify but it is an allocation issue firefox is trying to access memory it believes is free but the pointer has it allocated and possibly in use else where
a couple of suggestion if you do a google search for firefox segmentation fault but as you mentioned you are running kubuntu here is how one kubuntu user solved it Firefox Segmentation fault - Ubuntu Forums
other basic suggestions is to try loading FF without any add ons as well, and updating flash to newest version
