UFC 100 - the final results

Now that UFC 100 is over and battles are won.

Dan Henderson. That guy was my hero of the night. He was not only pi**ed at Bisping from trashing him during the Ultimate Fighter's season but he had to win this fight as the Brits had won both the Ultimate Fighter's weight classes. Dan literally gave Bisping a beating he won't forget for a very long time. As Henderson said: Don't let your mouth write checks your butt can't cash and next time don't bring a spoon to a gun fight.

George St Pierre. Canadian kick ass full rounded MMA fighter. Love to watch GSP fight. Thiago Alvez really deserves his nick name the Pit Bull. That guy has an iron chin. But GSP rules again. Wonderful career ahead. GSP taking on Anderson Silva are in talks but that would mean for GSP to move up in weight class. I don't think he would stand a chance against the spider.

Brock Lesnar. Who in history is going to put that 260 pound monster to sleep. Even a .45 wouldn't lay him down. If it wasn't for his sheer size, weight and hammer fist power that guy wouldn't stand a chance. I feel sorry for Mir. Lesnar on the other hand hasn't made himself very popular but remains the heavy weight belt holder.

Fans, what are your thoughts?

Love Henderson, quite, unassuming guy who has a track record that few can rival. I loved him in PRIDE, especially when he kicked Silva's a** when everyone thought "the axe murderer" was unstoppable. I think Bispeng was a loud mouth who was gifted the TUF title when he truthfully lost that bout. I think Hendo is the only fighter out there, in the weight class, that can give the Spider a challenge.

GSP, what can you say? The only debate regarding GSP is whether or not it's GSP or Anderson Silva who is the best "pound for pound" fighter in the word? I hear talk of those two actually mixing it up after Silva fights Griffin. THAT WOULD BE THE FIGHT!

I watched Lesnar and you hit it spot on Max, without the size I don't know how well he does against most of these guys. The heavyweight division is possibly the weakest division in the UFC and until someone beats Fedor, I think you will continue to hear that the best live in the UFC, save one. If the two were to engage, I do think Fedor is the favorite simply due to his skills outside of simply bull rushing someone and pounding them silly with his ham sized fists.

I think last night solidified that the UFC has very strong champions at each weight class, save heavyweight, sorry for Lesnar fans. It will be interesting to see who steps up to replace the likes of Liddel, Coture, Ortiz, Hughes, etc...and is able to challenge the current belt holders now and in the future.

I think Max summed it up my thoughts perfectly. GSP and Dan are a cut above the rest right now. Lesnar had some hope to be a big name, but after running his mouth last night I'm not sure what his future holds. According to a Sherdog.com article, even Dana is ****ed about antics. UFC fans are fickle, and only a big win over a real competitor will win them back.

I think the main problem with his attitude is he knows that most UFC fans don't acknowledge him for his fighting skills since the guys just needs to sit on you and over is the fight. It must be a big frustration to know that although you hold a belt it's not because your fighting skills but just because you're born with big ham sized fists :) and a huge body.

We've been blessed with many great fighters, some that are in the hall of fame... Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Randy Couture, Mark Coleman, Chuck Liddell, some that are still active (to long of a list :) and let's not forget the octagon girls! :D (my favorite part).

The one thing that disappoints me about Lesnar is the fact that his wrestling background is quite strong. If I'm not mistaken, he was the NCAA Heavyweight Champion in freestyle/greco roman in college, prehaps more than once. It seems like he is still trying to incorporate some WWE antics into the UFC, which seems to go against what everyone looks for. For example, Randy Cotoure is as humble a guy as there is, never trash talks, allowed his actions to speak for him, and absolutely became an icon using this approach. Not, that's not to say that his holding titles in two seperate weight classes hurt.

Overall, I think the UFC is stronger now in regards to its' respective champions than anytime in the recent history, save for the heavyweight divison. Until it happens, everyone will wonder about Fedor. The only fight I've seen of his was against Cro Cop, who turned out to be more sizzle than steak.

That's cool, I hadn't seen that in a while. I know Fedor's background is Sambo, among other things. I really wonder how Brock would do against him. Fedor's definately more adept in multiple disiplines than Brock but size and speed have to count for something. I wonder how Brock would do against someone who could really take a punch and continue on into the fight? His submission defence is questionable but so far, with the exception of Mir in the first fight, which was brought back to stand up when it never should have been, no one has really tested him with BJJ or any style that requires some level of knowledge to escape.

Hono is top notch in my book. It was great to see him back in the ring fighting for a purpose. I think Joe R said it was the best he looked in awhile. It was great when MB tried to shoot in on Dan and he shrugged him off laughing.

GSP flat-out deserves the title. Alves is a beast, but after 5 rounds GSP proved he was better.

Brock, kind of hard for me not to respect the guy. Is his style the most exciting to watch? No, but he gets the job done. I would have loved if he stood and banged with Mir, but the fact remains Mir is an awesome BJJ guy and needed to work better on the ground as he knew that is where it was going to go. He just couldn't do anything when he was down there. The old adage of technique beats strength still wins here. Brock has worked hard on his wrestling and BJJ skills to neutralize his opponents.<O:p

I actually read a very interesting article last night where they were discussing the eventual Fedor - Lesnar fight. The only problem they would see is if that fight takes place in to long of a period from now. Lesnar is apparently a fast learner and he will only improve on his technique. On the other hand in about 10 Lesnar fights from now there will be enough video and footage for fighters to analyze Lesnar's weaknesses and one fighter will come up with a strategy to beat him.

What if they put Fedor up against Mir first. If Fedor is victorious then the fans will just love to see Fedor take down Lesnar. But what if Mir is victorious.

These are some of the options Dana White is looking at.

Don't forget that for Dana White and the Fertita brothers fights are important but generating top dollar cash income from PPV and sold out tickets is even more important.

Joe - right you are. I remember watching Lesnar in nationals when he wrestled for Minnesota. He I think he won one year and then came in second the next. He's been trying to make a name for himself for years in all meat-head sports available. He was cut from the Vikings that first year out of college and before he went to WWE. The guy had over 100 wins in college with less than 10 losses I think. He is a specimen.

So... you're right Max, he's not an MMA guy, but he is definitely a talented wrestler, and in my MMA watching experience (at least in the early years - see Don Frye v. Tank Abbott), wrestlers always come out on top. Of course, once all that "guard position" al la Gracie became popular, wrestlers found themselves in a tough spot because the object is always to get a guy on his back -- the Gracie-schooled guys were most comfortable in that position. No pins in UFC.

Lesnar may be about as sharp as a bowling ball, but he's got talent. He just needs to tweak it to be a MMA guy and not just a wrestler. And if that fails, he can just keep hitting you with his car-door hands and squeezing your eyeballs out.

I think Max pretty much summed up my feelings on the fights exactly in the first post. The one thing that I will add is that my friends and I were extremely happy that we bought this card on PPV. Lots of good fights. We had been pretty disappointed with some of our other buys, but this one did not disappoint.

Great night of fights. My severe and sincere dislike of Lesnar is solidified. He is an amazing athlete, and will likely have a long run as champ (come on Carwin!! Or Fedor, of course), but he is simply NOT what the sport needs right now. People already think MMA is a bunch of meatheads who want to beat people up. Now the HW champ IS.

For the record I am not a Lesnar proponent. I am just amazed at everything he does for some reason. Probably because he is certifiably insane and a physical specimen. I, for one, am incredibly entertained when he is out there -- though I hate showboating, poor sportsmanship, etc.

He was the same way back when he was wrestling at Minnesota, too. Flexing and yelling when he won the matches. Not much has changed.

I agree that he is an amazing spectacle in the octagon. I enjoy watching him fight, and will do so every time he fights, I'm sure. I'll just always be hoping he gets beaten.

I mean, refusing to touch gloves when a guy has his hands out there? Turning you back on an ex-champ who offers that sign of sportsmanship, if not respect...not cool. getting in his face after you just beat him up? Come ON!

I with you guys on not liking Lesner, I think the guys in the negative department when it comes to class. The stunts he pulled were straight out of the WWE. The fact that you have guys like Anderson Silva, GSP, Machada (sp), heck even Penn has come back to earth a bit, that are just class through and through. As Max pointed out, Dana and the boys are in it to make money so I wonder how long the sponsors will stick around with Brock's "Coors Light" escapades?

Ogie, did you get to see him wrestle in college? I've heard the guys been a beast from the beginning. It's funny because it seemed like he gave Randy some respect but nothing to Mir, who himself is somewhat of a clown. I really do think that Fedor brings too much to the table for Brock to take apart, but, as Mike Tyson so famously put "everyone's got a plan until they get punched in the face!"

Did anyone catch Rena (aka Sable)? Hasn't she been around since I was in high school and I'm 36? Can anyone say "cougar"?

Joe, yeah my dad, brother, and I grew up wrestling, so we followed nationals each year. When he was winning there was the same kind of draw as there is now (this guy is a monster), only on a lesser scale because there isn't much of an audience for amateur/collegiate wrestling. You can see some of his matches on YouTube from when he was a Golden Ram.

I'm sorry to say it, but I used to be a Lesnar fan before Saturday night's fight. I lost any amount of respect I had for him. That night proved to me that his technical skill goes as far as sitting on a guy and using your massive weight to neutralize him. That's not skill, that's not sport. I heard someone say that Mir normally fights at 225, the normal weight for the HW class. He weighed in at 245, obviously trying to match Lesnar's size to some extent. But then, I don't know if Mir is normally 225. Also, Mir's ground game is one of the best in the UFC. You can't use Juijitsu when there's 265 pounds sitting on top of you.

Also, Fedor WANTS to fight Lesnar, and to be honest - Fedor would obliterate him. He is easily the best HW out there right now, and Lesnar doesn't stand a chance.

I wasn't a GSP fan before Saturday, but I most definitely am, now. That was 5 rounds of great fighting, right there.

Max, that's a great clip, I hadn't seen that one yet. I agree that Fedor, I believe, would destroy Lesner. Heck, I think Barnett might be able to take him, truth be told. I think I echo everyone's sentiments here when I say that the UFC has the best in each weight class, save one. Hopefully, that is rectified soon.
