I don't think joki was trying to define the American way of life either, he simply said that in his belief there's only one political party in this country that supports our forefathers model, i.e. the 2nd amendment. Aren't we allowed our own opinion, no matter how much someone may disagree with it?

Actually it is funny because it's so misinformed. First, I don't think any bill was passed. Please cite whatever bill you think Obama signed. Second, everything I found said that it was a change in policy that was initiated by the Office of the Secretary of Defense under the Bush administration:

I don't think the current economic state is a reflection only on the US, and certainly not what we were founded on. We've strayed so far from our initial thoughts of how America should run, and strayed a bit as a society, that there's no way the original plan caused such a financial collapse.

How does the states try and achieve that?

Maybe not on only the US, but largely, you are being blamed for it. Certainly a reflection of the 'take now, pay later and screw the consequences' attitude that is not only seen with money - not only in the states either, here as well.

A friend of mine went bankrupt in november, his new bank told him not to mention it, because they don't check. I wonder what his personal debt will look like in 12 months.

I am a republican, but I've learned to leave politics out of conversation as much as possible. All it seems to do is get tempers flared. I know what I believe, who I voted for, and what I think we're doing wrong as a country. I wish I had more of a say in things, but politicians get paid WAY too much play a game I wasn't invited to. They do one of two things: find the best way to get what they want and make the smallest amount of people mad, or they do what the majority of people want. It sucks that some group of americans will inevitably get screwed, but it's all about finding a happy medium where most of the people are satisfied. Most people wanted us to fight back after September 11, now most people think socialized healthcare is the right thing to do. Plenty of people disagree with both, but they did or will happen.
