The weather in Taiwan

Dear SRP members,

In light of the recent news about the mudslides and typhoon in Taiwan, I've been getting several members asking if I was alright. I thank you all for your concern, and I thought I would let everyone know that I am ok - luckily, no more than "the usual" typhoon damage for my family. I wish I could say the same for the several villages that were wiped out by mudslides. Entire towns were also left stranded due to damaged roads and collapsed bridges. This was definatley one of the more severe typhoons in my 10+ years here.

If anyone is interested in helping out the victims of this, and other natural disasters in Taiwan and Asia, the Tzu-Chi Foundation is an extremely active, organized and worthwhile international organization to make donations to. (The "DONATION" link is on the right side of the page.)

The drinking water supply usually gets "dirty" and water is cut off for about 3 days to clean it and let the sediment settle (ours is off until Friday, but our building has a large storage tank, so we only go about 1 day without). I'm sure there is plenty of bottled water/water trucks available to them right now, as long as the road into the town is accessible.
