my uncle told me to check out Stanley Jordan on youtube

he is really incedible! yes he has a very distinct style and maybe all his stuff sounds the same (i have no clue). but he is amazing to watch and considering i am in no way a jazz fan i really do like it.
anyone else know of him? (some must)

But nothing comparing to Stanley:)
One of my favourites guitar players, for example (electric) its Tom Morello..:)
EDIT: i was watching this video and thinking..maybe he's guitar belt should give a nice strop..!:)
There are impressive clips of Stanley Jordan on Youtube. He's a master of the guitar. His style/sound is good for me in low doses since it is so distinct.
I know what you mean about "how did I not know of [this} guitarist before??".
Just last week I learned of Rory Gallagher, the Irish blues player. I've been amazed and craving more ever since. Wow.

There are so many really great players out there that don't really get a lot of exposure. I seem to remember a lot of people talking about Stanley Jordan in the late 80s, then it just kind of fell off. Might be because he had a cameo in the movie Blind Date.

If memory serves, the Portuguese are pretty much responsible for if not the very creation of the guitar at least the worldwide spread of it and its offshoots like the quatro and ukelele.Quote:

I first saw this guy LIVE as an opener for the first G3 tour in Pittsburgh back in '96. I remember seeing this guy walk out with a chair and a guitar, and thought it might be a tech guy setting something up. Then he started playing and my GOD he blew me away! Took me a week or so after that to find out who he was, because he didn't introduce himself, wasn't on the program, and no one else said anything about him. He just came out, played, and left the stage. If you get the chance, check out some of his albums, he is amazing!

Yes they are:)! The Ukelele its or own (portuguese) "cavaquinho" that our emigrants (mostly from Açores - "Azores") carried to Hawai this kind of instrument! Their King apreciated so much our "culture" that he embrassed as their own! I must say i never been to Hawai but many portuguese people said that its like beeing on Portugal (Açores - "Azores")!Quote:
