I was peeking through the SRP Movie thread when I saw a still for "The Red Balloon" It brought me way back to about 2nd or 3rd grade when I first saw it. This little short film made an impression on my little soul like nothing has before or since, so I thought I would like to share this with all of you here at SRP. I wonder what children of today would make of it? I'm going to see if I can sit my 7-y-o down to watch this sometime. I suspect the lack of CGI and explosions might lose his interest. My daughter would love it though!
I have never seen the film or I don't recollect if from my youth, but my wife still has the book she had as a child and we've read it many times to our kids. Great story.
For me, the first and strongest film that made an indelible mark on me was Star Wars. As a six year old seeing that in the theater when it was first released was pretty much beyond words. I'm afraid I would have sold my parents down the river for a real working light saber.

When my father was teaching film this was one that he made sure to bring home to show us. It was the most magical thing I'd ever seen, and lingered at the edges of my mind for a long time. Thanks for sharing this link.
I hope it continues to be shown to children. It is one of those rare films that manages to be engaging enough for a young audience, yet a real work of art on its own terms.

A great kids film but I should warn you that it is kinda like bambi in that their is a death and will have kids sobbing for days :cry: (not me though, never ;))
That was awful. I never liked balloons now I despise them. That evil red ballon tormented that poor little boy throughout the entire film then, when the kid is finally free of the awful thing, an entire mob of balloons kidnap the defenseless (if not moderately retarded) little boy and fly him off to his obviously terrifying and painful death.
