Christmas poll
OK, so do you believe that the person of Jesus being born was a historical fact?
Not a question of Him being the son of God, Messiah, His ressurection, etc....Just simply: was there a human being that we now refer to as Jesus, born, lived and died ~2000 years ago?
-
I once heard that "Jesus" was a really popular name back then. Like, "Mike."
-
No doubt. There is documented evidence of it. In fact, the Catholic Church has priests that are "forensic accountants" that are auditing records (The Romans were truly anal about record keeping, had something to do with taxes). I talked to one while visiting The Vatican years ago. It was a fascinating conversation to say the least.

How about a
(don't know) option?
Fwiw, I think there is enough evidence to assume beyond reasonable doubt that a person with that name existed around that time frame, and that he had some notoriety / fame.

I think most historians agree that there was a man named Jesus. Whether or not he was the son of God and whether or not he did all the miracles attributed to him, is up for debate. I believe he did, but I can not scientifically prove it.
-
Old Roman records point to a troublemaker during that time but other than that?
-
I wouldn't say "Yes, definitely," but I'm pretty sure there is a lot of evidence that points towards yes.
-
Not "Jesus", no.
Iesu, probably. Lots of them, in fact. As far as Iesu of Nazareth, the son of God and King of the Jews? Who told Christians to be good slaves? Maybe.
Historical fact and religious fervor have so very little to do with each other, I don't think it matters.

i think it is most assuredly yes...if not just look at all the calendars that are out there..B.C. and A.D.
