Leno's leaving!

Is anyone at all surprised? how he's stayed employed this long is unknown. The "new" show (little differences than old) just plain sucks. He is just going to a later time is all. I could watch his headlines all day.

If I'm not mistaken they're shortening Conan to 30 minutes. That's 29 too long if you ask me. I fail to find humor in anything he says.

The only one worth watching (Fallon) is going to 1 am! Sucks. They need to give Jimmy a 2 hour show. I'm a big Jimmy Fallon and Roots fan.

Okay, that's all I have to say now.

I heard they were discussing a few options, but if this is the way things are unfolding, I've got to say, that is pretty ridiculous.

Out of those three guys, Conan O'Brien is the only real talent. Harvard-educated and a veteran of comedic writing, he cut his teeth as a comedy editor in university, moving on to sketch work, Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. With close to fifteen years as the host of Late Night, he certainly paid his dues, and with Leno's long tenure and advancing age, I thought the transition would be smooth. Jay could ease into retirement and focus all of his attention on his cars, and Conan could take the reins.

From the get-go, however, all I've read about is Leno's whining. How he reconsidered retirement and thought he'd like to stay on television even longer. So the guy gets his way and, instead of bowing out gracefully, he's given a show which preempts Conan's...again. Conan was a gentleman about it and said how he's had Leno be the opener for his show for a decade and a half, and that he's happy to continue the pattern. But Leno's been doing this new show of his and everyone unanimously agrees that it stinks! So if what you say is true and they're re-tooling the institution of The Tonight Show just because Leno can't accept that his time is up, well, that's just absurd. They need to cut that guy lose rather than placating him with milk from both O'Brien and Falon's fridge, heating it up and serving it to him in a bottle.

Oh, and Fallon totally blows too, by the way. The guy has no sense of comedic timing, he sucked on SNL, and he sucks even worse on his new show. I won't blame him entirely, because the writing is pathetic, but his delivery is just the worst. They can air his show as late as they want for all I care, but it is wrong to mess with Conan's program...again.

Conan is geeky to me. I can't stand to look at his hairdo. LOL.

Fallon's timing or lack thereof is what makes him funny to me. That and that hes so fun-loving. Not afraid to laugh at what's funny or at himself.

But, by all means, if you're a Conan fan, rock on. There are many of you. We agree on Leno though. Haha.

And, for the record, it'd not upset me none if the other station retired Letterman. He's been okay, but gosh, how many top 10 lists can you do in a lifetime? That Craig Ferguson has gotten a couple of laughs from me. He just seems so all over the place.

Leno has to face facts: his tenure as The Tonight Show host is over. Sorry Jay, you had a good run, but it's time to cash out and make way for the new blood. I find it difficult to believe that this is true, though. Shortening The Tonight Show by 50%? How could that possibly work?

Anyway, Conan would probably be the first to admit that he's pretty nerdy. Not really a big secret there. His self-deprecating style of humor is what makes him so hilarious, in my opinion. His experience with improvisational comedy is actually what makes him so well-rounded and quick on his feet. He learned early on that if a particular joke wasn't working, the safety net was to poke fun at himself - it always works. I consider this to be one of Leno's major weaknesses. Conan can get on stage with no advanced preparation and just wing it, but unless Leno is scripted and prepared, he's pretty much helpless. I saw him interviewed on Jimmy Kimmel one time, and when Kimmel side-stepped a few of the rehearsed talking points and gave Leno a bit of a ribbing about something, he immediately starting squirming in the guest chair, tapping his leg up and down incessantly. His defense mechanism is to become confrontational and mocking, which is pretty rude.

I've never really been a fan of Fallon, but at the same time, I don't want him to crash and burn in his new gig. I actually think he'll do okay in the long run. For starters, when Conan was a newbie, he too struggled to find his footing, but once he did, he really made the show his own, and I think he even topped Letterman's hosting abilities by the time he finished his run. I almost couldn't watch Fallon's first little while on Late Night it was so bad, but they've recently retooled a few things, and from the tone of the monologue jokes, it seems as though they've got some new writers. The jokes are noticeably better. Fergusson's pretty funny, but I'd say he's just not my brand of humor. I like Kimmel, though. I remember recognizing him as a quick wit when I used to see him as the host of Win Ben Stein's Money around ten years ago now. I'm glad things have worked out for him.

But yeah, this Conan / Leno fiasco is maddening. I just want Leno gone. Conan deserves to rule NBC and Leno deserves a severance check.
