If it is illegal for government supported facilities, is it still legal for those who get their finance from the private sector? Maybe off topic, but just asking?

Yes, privately funded research facilities are able to do research on embryonic stem cell. THe problem though is that in most cases the government funded labs have much more money then the private labs. Hence, a lot... and I mean a lot, of our top scientists are leaving the country to go across seas and do this research, because other governments are funding it. This is the forefront of science right now.
I didn't read all the responses, I'd have a sore ass! As far as stem cell research, I'm all for it. I have a bad knee, 5 surgeries, bone on bone....I bumped into a guy in the Verizon store. He had a knee brace on, and I could tell by his scar, he had an ACL tear.
I struck up a conversation with him, and he told me, he too, like me, was bone on bone.
He also told me of a procedure they're doing where they can re grow up to 85% of your miniscus back...Which is great. I'd much rather do that, than have my real knee cut out, and a titanium one put in....he said it was all posible due to stem cell research...
