This is a pretty amazing movie. I'll probably get some ribbing, but this movie inspired me to get off the couch. I'll be running a 1/2 marathon early next year.
What these guys did though is really amazing. If you are ever looking for an interesting study in leadership or in believing you can do something despite common sense . . . this might be it.

Nah, no ribbing here. Whatever it takes to get you off of the "Couch of Doom" is fine by me. Just take it slowly, listen to your body and build your base and you will smoke through 13.1 in no time. When I started running, a loop around the park (1.5 miles) would require at least four stops. My long runs are now 10 miles in roughly 1:15.30, and I average 100 mile months. Not too bad. Stay encouraged.

I would love to start running again. I only have one full marathon under my belt and some 5k & 10k races. But I haven't even jogged in five years. I had some injuries. I'm back on the nordic track though, so......running again is the goal.
Edit: Is this a current run movie? We tried to rent on Netflix and it says DVD date unknown?

It really is an interesting documentary. I really enjoyed it. However, I've not gotten the running bug (and probably never will)
I tried running again, but everytime I do I get a bad cse of 'runner knee' so I have given up on running. It's weird though. Knee intensive things like squash and ninpo are not a problem at all. I can do them many times per week intensively. But after a mile of running my knees force me to stop.
Doesn't matter anymore. I am happy enough doing ninpo and jujutsu several times per week and improving my physique that way.
As for ribbing: not really. there's no time like the present to start doing something. Go for it Alan.
Bruno, i wonder if the problem is with your arches?
I overpronate and it causes me knee problems if i do not have shoes and insoles designed to help with the problem.

"To turn or rotate (the foot) by abduction and eversion so that the inner edge of the sole bears the body's weight." And what that is leaves me also absolutely clueless.
So overpronate(d) would likely be too much of this. Frankly, I care less than can be measured in that if I chance to dash across a street one of my knees goes south for a week. The rest of me, being of a northerly bent, has decided that running is for others, only.

As regular pronation is making contact with the heel and rolling through the arch to the ball just below the middle toe, overpronation is when you either contact on the outer edge of the heel and rotate to the big toe or ride the inner portion of you instep throughout the motion. If you supinate, you sort of ride along the outer edge of your foot, and don't make a full transition through the arch. Everyone pronates, as that is the natural motion used in walking or running. People with high arches tend to supinate, and people with lower or flat arches tend to overpronate. My overpronation seemed to show itself in a collapse of the arch on my left foot before the end of the cycle, due to an imbalance in my stride. New shoes and some stretching, and I clock high 5's in the mile and about an 19 in the 5k.
