I saw an entire forum dedicated to this on another site and even with browsing that forum i still couldnt figure out exactly what it was lol. something about a cube, a product called hydrolast, "forms" and pastes, im sure it would have made some sense had i known what these things were. can anyone give me an ultra simple "method shaving for dummies" run down?
You might want to search the archives. I seem to remember Joe Learch discussing 'method' shaving. Otherwise, I know it has been talked about in great detail over on Shave my face. To tell the truth, it never made much sense to me. It seemed like they touted a) lots of water b) NO pressure c) multiple passes from multiple directions... :hmmm: sound familiar???

i guess it's not off topic but i didnt put it in the shaving forum becuase it wasnt straight shaving or even regular shaving (like i said i havent much of a clue what it is even after browsing boards). i didnt think it was a big deal to put it here as i wasnt in a big hurry to get it answered, just curious what it is.
Method shaving is a style of shaving "created" by Charles Roberts. It involves using several products which can be found at Enchante. While many shavers do not agree with the specific "method" itself (Joe Lerch labeled them "methodists"), many do use their products in their own style of shaving. Allegedly Charles offers one of the best A/S balms or moisturizers available. I've never tried it.

lol i clicked the "wet shaving systematic" a primer- link on that site and a 75pg! pdf file opened :eek: that's not going to happen. practically everything i find on this subject is 3 pages of fluff on the history of wet shaving, 1/2 a page on shaving (nothing describing/picturing the unique "tools" used in this type of shaving) and then a standard conclusion.
randy can you or anyone tell me simply what this cube is and how it's used along with the other stuff (pastes, cutting balm), i dont need many details, i dont plan on trying this so even a sentence on each would be great.
I think you would get a better answer if you posed your question on the Methodshaving.com forum (www.methodshaving.com). Read some of the documents in the Articles section and join their forum. Their members would be pleased to help you out. Adam Mendleson is the administrator over there and I'm sure he would also be more than pleased to answer your questions.Quote:

I have spoken to Charles on the phone back when I was shopping Simpson brushes. He is a very nice, VERY talkative guy (75 pages :)), and quite intelligent on all aspects of shaving. He'll try to convert you to the "method" that's for sure. From our conversation, this is what I gathered....the cube is a big 3" cube of some sort of shaving soap. Supposedly it doesn't smell very pleasant either. The gist of it is you bash the hell out of your wet brush on the cube to "load" it. Then you take it to a cream (cutting balm maybe?), and after the shave is done, he has a few post shave steps to be used with his products. Toning, aftershave, balm, etc. The method isn't so much a different way to actually make passes, but rather the whole approach to shaving. Mostly with the lather building and conditioning I think. But I'm probably off a bit. Go to enchante, get his number and call him. He'd be ECSTATIC to give you the run down. Just don't call him when you need to be somewhere in an hour.

without trying to come off too dumb i was partly thinking this cube thing was doing some cutting somehow lol (didnt think it was only soap). with the burning ive heard people describe i was thinking Nair meets paste meets shaving
I recently recieved a DVD from a member of another forum where he demonstrates his shaving,lathering,products and method shaving
if you are interested , I really can't comment on it ,as to good or bad since I am new, and I try to learn as much as possible through others views. But overall i learned a few things from it. I paid $11.00 for the DVD here is where:

The cube is a bar of Marseilles olive oil soap which supposedly contains some other helpful ingredients. I like it. It stays wet a long time (I have shaved with it alone and it's not bad, but no fun compared to a nice cream). I load my brush with it before lathering up my cream and I find it makes the lather a little looser and much wetter. This lather will not dry on your face. Other than that, I think the pricey aftershave balm is wonderful. It makes my face feel like no other product I've ever used. I'm not endorsing it, but if you're already using an expensive aftershave product, like skin food, you might want to try it.Quote:
