did anyone see pawn stars the other night on the history channel if not here what happened a guy brought in a straight and its coffin in to the pawn shop to sell and to me on my tv it looked in real good shape and they offered him 50 buck for it all to me and the look of it I think it was worth more maybe I am wrong
I've never even heard of this show but I'd guess getting $50 for a razor from a pawn shop is pretty much the best one could could hope for. Of course, it does depend on the given razor but in general pawn shops don't really pay a lot. IF you get half the "value" of the item you are quite lucky.
I knew a guy who owned a pawn shop. IME if they offer $50 it has to worth $500 or more. :shrug:
Actually, $50 is more than I have paid for any of my six razors.

$50 is just about the upper limit I am willing to pay for a razor.
I caught it. It wasn't a brand I had ever heard of. Customer thought the scales were ivory and it would be worth a bunch, but the pawn store correctly identified them as celluloid.
I think $50 was a fair price for both buyer and seller. The razor was Solingen, had goldwash and emblems in the scales, looked to be in good shape and had a proper matching box.
I could be wrong, I was wrong once before, but IMO if it hadn't been a TV show the pawnbroker would have offered $10.00 tops. Even if it was a custom Livi or Zowada. Those guys never pay much for anything.Quote:

From My experiences, they tell you to bring in ----- item because they have lots of customers asking. You bring in that item and it chafes to"we have loads of them sitting on the shelf(none are visible) and it will take forever to sell, I ha e to put it up for $100" or whatever. Then he offers 30% of what he says he'll sell it for, go back 2 days later and it's for sale at double what je said he will sell it for. I avoid them as much as possible and go with craigslist to sell stuff. It's always worked for me.
Anyone who takes their goods to a pawn shop most likely has no other option and the owners know this. I have no problem with a shop owner trying to get the best deal so he can make a living.
I do have a problem with shop owners knowingly lying to a customer to make a sale when they already have a buyer setup.
