I know I don't keep normal sleep patterns, but I was just PMing with Joed and I just saw CarrieM post. It is currently past midnight their time. And more than once I have been emailing Dylan past 2am his time. I notice that there are many people who keep odd hours on here other than myself. What are your sleep patterns? I'd like to know that I'm not the only one before I admit what I do.
BTW I only log off SRP when my cell phone dies.
i have very odd sleep hours.. generally sleep between 3am and 7am.. then again around 1pm to 4pm.
sometimes i skip the day sleep. but i get really frapped if i do.
I'm supposed to be sleeping now, cause I have an appoint tomorrow morning. Since I'm my own boss, I set my own hours... for the most part. I usuall go to bed around 2 or 3 and wake up around 10 or 11. Lots of fun late night on the chat.
I hate getting into bed before I'm dead tired, cause I feel like waiting to fall asleep is a waste of time. But on the flip side, I hate getting out of bed in the morning (though I'm finally learning that I have to actually get out of bed whenever I wake up, cause if I don't I feel terrible for several hours).
There is always the "SRP-ers Anonymous" and the doctor is always in (24/7)...well, it's actually an outsourced outfit in Mumbai :roflmao.Quote:

Well, it's now 1am... I'm generally up until 2am, then sleep until around 9 or 10 am (This being my schedule for summer... I'm a student). Although I have been known to do without sleep for a day or two when I don't feel tired, or when I'm on a honing binge... Generally when I'm honing I do it from midnight until whenever it's done, then go to sleep...
Very sporadic sleep patterns, more so during the school year.
I grew up on a dairy farm. In order to get all the work done and still make it to school on time, I had to get up at 4:30 AM from age 12 until I went to college. Decades later I still wake up early. The problem is that I cannot get to sleep unless my wife is in the bed and she just won't got to bed until 1:30 to 2:00 AM. I've tried with no luck to get her to shift her bedtime and she just can't/won't do it.
We are completely incompatible in this regard. I wake up at about 5 AM every morning and then lay there and try to get back to sleep until 6:30 AM when I get up. That means I get, at best, 5 hours of sleep every night. Usually it's less than 4. After doing this for a decade, I figure I am simply brain damaged.

Actually I've inherited insomnia and sleep apnea from my genes. I would hardly call the sleep I get any kind of a pattern, but I do fill up on sleep when I can.
I sleep when I'm in my coffin.
I understand what you mean by not being able to sleep without the wife in bed. I tried to convince my wife that I need her in bed so I can sleep. But my wife doesn't believe me because she sees me sleeping in bed without her after three days without sleep.Quote:

When I was at Uni it was very random. Sometimes I'd pull all nighters, or I'd sleep from 4am till midday or something. Other days I'd be in bed really early around 7pm and then get up at 5am.
Now I'm working I tend to be a lot more fixed in pattern. I tend to go to bed between 11pm and 1am depending on how tired I am, and I usually get up at 5.30/6am, and then I'm in the office just before 8.
That way I have enough time to feed the cats, enjoy a proper straight razor shave, get dressed, get my stuff together and catch the Tube and still get to work on time.
Summer time sleep is usually from 10pm to 4am for me and winter time sleep is usually 11pm till as long as I can stay in bed (Usually I'm lucky if that's 7am), most often it's 6am, once it was 9am though. I used to be up by 4.30am everyday but my work hours have been in flux for some time. As of today though I can get it back to normal...I have been relieved of any further duties until such time as I find a more suitable role...Self-employed for the time being :chop::beer1::y

I work third shift and usually sleep 7am-3pm or some days 8am-4pm
I tend to sleep soundly from 11pm to 7.30am.

When at home i usually sleep about 01 - 07 weekdays, on weekends few hours longer. When at work for longer periods, we have 4/4 system: 4 hrs on watch and 4 hrs off. After few days it makes me feel like a zombie, but after few more days i get used to it.
I typically sleep when I can. As a locomotive engineer I'm on call thursday to monday 24 hrs a day. This means I may work all night and then work all day. It's a federal law now that they have to give us 10 hours off between runs, but you should try to sleep when you aren't tired or are amped up...only to know that you are going back to work in 10 hours. I'm actually considering finding another job, it's just that a good one is few and far between...

My wife needs more sleep than I do, but we normally go to bed at about the same time (I have trouble falling asleep without her as well). I usually get up earlier than her.
The normal schedule is 10 ish until 6 - 6:30 am

To e honest I dont sleep much maybe 4 hrs anight, this I have been told is unhealthy but i often code into the darl hours lol and because of it relish night shift in my other job. I have no definitive time of sleep, i just wedge it in between activity lol.

IMO, sleep is one of the most underrated pleasures. I try and get 8 hours sleep, here I've been going to be early and getting up early. At home, I stay up until maybe midnight, generally. I always intend to go to bed earlier than I do, mind.
my sleep patter is pretty random, i usually try to get six hours while im here, but working 12-18 hour days (depending on the day) it makes it hard sometimes and it seems easier to just not sleep and catch up on it the next time off. although after a couple days like that i can sleep anywhere and wont wake up until someone comes and wakes me up,

Since it's summer and I wasn't able to find a summer job my sleep hours have shifted to being later and later each night. Right now I'm doing between 2-3 until 11-12ish. During the school year I'm in bed around midnight and up an hour or two before my first class, so usually around 7.
Usually something like 23:00 to 06:20.
Usually I sleep around 1-2 and wake up at 7 for work.
Then again there are days that I don't sleep until 5 or 6 but it's always a 7am wake up for me.
Right now tho it's passed 3 am and I'm still up because I had a nice 5 hour nap after church so I'm not so tired.
Sleep is a fairly fluid concept, I'm a Paramedic and my wife is a Chef.
I work 2 days (0700 - 1800) followed by 2 nights (1800 - 0700) then 4 days off - the first of which is after my final night.
Usually I am asleep by 2300 to be up for work.
Try to get an hour or two nap before my first night.
Sleep about 6 hours between nights.
Maybe an hour or so nap after my second night.
At work we are able to try and nap if the workload allows - these days we're lucky to get an hour.
On my days off my wife is often up at 0330 so the alarm goes off and then I go back to sleep until it's time to take the kids to school.
SRP is somewhere I can access from home or work so postings here can be at absolutely any time.

Since I work a five day week around 8:00 to around 5:00 (or 6:00, or 7:00), I try to keep a regular pattern of 10:00 or 11:00 to 6:30. It's my way of pretending to be normal. With all the responses that indicate odd hours, I wonder if there's a correlation between unconventional activities such as straight razor shaving and unconventional sleep habits. Any researchers out there?

As a long ago former nightclub bouncer, I'm embarrassed to admit that I LOVED that movie. I was the smallest bouncer the club had ever hired, since I was 6'1' and weighed 220. When I went in for the interview, the club manager, who was huge, took one look at me and told me that there was no way that I could work there. I asked him if I could throw him out of the club, could I have the job? He said yes, so I offered to shake on the deal. He held out his hand, I took hold of his pinkie and index finger and bent them back hard while moving behind him and holding his shoulder. I walked him to the door and got the job!
While working there I removed 7 knives and 1 gun from uncooperative patrons, but in general, I did not have to be disagreeable because my size was not intimidating. The huge bouncers would get in the faces of the the drunk guys and essentially back them into a corner. With impaired judgement, they would start a fight and the bouncers would easily dispatch them and boost their own egos. I tried to use diplomacy. Generally if a guy needed to be booted out it involved a problem with alcohol, lack of social grace, and a girl. Usually I could get the guy to leave if I just pulled him aside and informed him that I needed him to leave and he was welcome to save face by just leaving with his girl on his own. This gave them the chance to save face, because I was not backing them into a corner and humiliating them. This worked so well for me that I occasionally was tipped by guys I was kicking out!

This is a subject that's always intrigued me, and if there are any unprejudiced studies I haven't been able to find them.
Just from noticing over the years what is truly comfortable to me - a 24 hour day doesn't work well; I tend to rotate forward about 2-3 hours per day if I simply go to bed when sleepy and wake up when rested. About 7 hours sleep will do me, a bit more if I'm still tired for whatever reason when I first wake up. I should mention that I've been retired for about ten years, so I can do just that if I wish. Drives the wife crazy, though. Given the 24 hour day which I can't change, I'm a night owl. Chronic migraines and the resultant light sensitivity probably drives a lot of that tendency, but I really do function better at night even when I don't have a pounding head.
Good thread, it's interesting to see the experiences of others on the topic.
During the summer, my two boys and I go almost nocturnal (I'm a teacher, and they're both students). Like me, they're afraid they're going to miss something, so a 4 a.m. bedtime isn't unusual (unless that's when I'm getting up to go fishing!). I've always been a night-owl, and when I was working my way through college on 2nd shift, I often greeted the sunrise before getting a few precious hours and starting all over again!:mace:
Since I go back to school tomorrow, and have to get up at 6:00, I need to be in bed by 10:00 on weeknights if I'm going to give 90 seniors all my energy the next day!
