I've always been interested in that, but I never got any furthur than a CB (or in the latest cases, UHF) in the cars that I've had and wiring my bikes up for a handheld to helmet connection, with a PTT on the handlebar.
What sort of range do you normally get with that Paul?

KD4GTG General Class. Many years ago I had a club at school for HS students, then computers.......

WD5CQA just use morse code though and have used the radio in over a year so would be very rusty. Makes me want to bring it back out and play
What class are you Paul? I kept my KD4GTG because I use to say Kilo -delta-4- Go-Teacher-Go and did not want to lose that when I upgraded.
How have things been going on the longer wavelengths the past couple years with the low solar activity? Very strange minimum don't you think?
Kingfish....I have an Extra Class ticket in the States
(KK6H). There's only one class of license here in
Tonga, but that entitles you to full priviledges just
like the Extra.
HF band conditions have been pretty grim for the last
couple of years, but there have been some surprising
openings from time to time, even up into the 6M band.
You're getting lots of responses!
I mostly do HF contesting with a minimal rig and antenna. Also did a lot of /MM from my sailboat 2003-2007. Active in the local Richmond, BC club.

KD5AFE, general class. It's been awhile since I've been active. I need to
get an antenna party together and raise an hf antenna. .
My question, on re-reading, is ambiguous. However I think I have clarified that via PM with Paul. My question related to Ham radio and not the 27mhz or 477mhz ranges.
Due to a link that Paul PM'd me, and my furthur research, I now have far more questions, and I think I'm going to have to go to the Amataur Radio club down the road from me, so that I can seek some answers, do a course, get my license etc.
Thank you Paul, for re-igniting my interest. I'm not sure that I can take it too far at the present moment, but I can still do some learning in the mean time.
