heard this morning that leslie neilsen passed away, and all i could think of was is line "yes im serious, and dont call me shirley".
He was one of my favorite actors as far as keeping me entertained goes
yes i still love the naked guns, and police squad, for all their funny slapstick sight gags, and one liners
Since this is Leslie Nielson I'm sure he wouldn't be offended by:
"He got his last punchline."
The man was known for bad (but funny) jokes and I'll miss his appearance in films where I don't want to think too much but simply laugh.
I will miss just knowing that there was an actor that could play a serious role, like Forbidden Planet as well as absolutely ludicracy like Wrongfully Accused, and do both with such ease. In some ways, I feel like modern actors often lack that balance and diversity, that actors like Leslie Nielson and Peter Sellers (Strangelove vs. Being There) brought to movies of the past. But, for me, knowing that someone can make such huge strides and really just keep the audience guessing who they will "be" in their next film, it gives hope to me that younger actors may still possess this hidden gem. I guess time will tell, but at the very least, we'll always have these movies as reminders.
