Well... I hit the big time.
I just had a guy email me and he wanted to pay me to have someone's banner placed on both of my web sites. The banner advertises a business that sells shaving supplies and knives. An outfit I have never heard of.
He offered $30
I guess I better change my web site a bit so people don't think I'm completely broke or destitute. Maybe I could write back...
"Is that $30 a click?"
What do you guys think I should say to him?
Answer and argue that $30 a click is a bit low. Ask for $40.

tell him $30 everytime someone visits a page on your website that has the banner :)
Tell him that $30.00 a click isnt even a tenth of one of your custom made razors why would you bother....I think he'll get the hint lol

As an aside, the first ad I placed when I started my Internet business (a decade or so ago) cost me $100/year for a link with a 25-word description. I ran the ad for 2-years. It was on a popular site which dealt specifically with my target customer base... and AFAIK, it didn't result in a single direct sale! Getting listed in the search engines was a different story... that paid off handsomely. Back then search engine listing was free (except for Yahoo). By far Google has provided me w/the most business... all for free.

I got the same thing a few weks ago. He was going to give me $30 as well to place my competitors banner on my website. Why in the hell would he think I wanted a link to another persons store for strops and razors on my site???

Tell him he's won a cash payout of $100,000 from a draw of potential advertisers to your site, that there is no concern as long as he doesn't disclose this to anyone at this sensitive juncture. You'll need to get his name, address, email address etc. and that you'll contact him soon about claiming his prize! :D
