Checking in to tell you some news...

Dear SRP friends,

I've been absent for a while now and therefore unable to fulfill my comitments to some of you here. I think about that often... I still have some DE blades to pick up and post to a friend here. But I haven't had nor the time nor the mental availability to do so.
Let me explain.
The last time I was active here was a bit over a year ago. A lot has happened since then. I was in Belgium and returned to Portugal. Did a post-graduate course in European law, finished my masters degree, did a couple more courses in cultural programming and so forth.
My girlfriend was also in Belgium with me and returned to Portugal as well to finish her degree in architecture. In the meantime, the Portuguese economy sunk like the Titanic (only a bit smaller...) and the job finding prospects have been looking rather bleek since then.
While I was busy trying to find a job (still no success, though), my girfriend was busy completing her final project. I was amazed at the way she was working - she displayed amazing tenacity and dedication. But the real motive why she was working so hard only became clear in February this year... During this time we were living away from each other and I did notice a bit of weight gain. And then she told me: she was preagnant! "Bloody hell! - I thought - I'm going to be a father!" :)
And there you are, my friends: I'm going to be a Dad!
My girlfriend is now 7 months preagnant and life is starting to shape up. I been fighting hard(er) to find a job and I may well be in for a professional internship (paid, thank goodness!) and I'm starting a PhD project with good prospects of a scholarship. In a couple of months we'll be the proud parents of a newborn baby boy - a straight razor shaver in the making.
So... wish me luck! I'm in for the adventure of my life.

I'll try to keep track of what is going about in here.

Yes. You can either have kids, or keep your home clean and tidy.
The 2 don't go together very well.
I remember finding my youngest coloring the grouting between the floortiles with crayon.
And just this weekend, we had an accident involving a full bottle of iodine. The tv remote control is now colored an even dark red. :p

Bruno you should think yourself lucky that you can get iodine mate. It has been off the shelves for some time here :).


Oh yeah...Congrats on the kid...You should have told me you wanted one. You could have had one of my three.:p

You don't know how lucky you are. The remote to my TV is covered in dried baby vomit, as is the couch. Aren't kids wonderful. It's amazing how much you can love something that will make your house a mess, cause you many sleepless nights, make your wife so tired that she forgets that you exist and cover everything in baby vomit.

Oh yeah, my son just 4,5 months and luckily still he vomit only where we brings him... but very soon he start to crawl and walk and we will need to hide everything from him. I'm with my wife live in Ukraine but our son wake up as if he lives in Japan;)

You will never ever truly have a clean set of clothes on ever again! My boy pukes like he is marking territories :p and my couch has many baby pee stains now. He likes to wait while you change him till you look away and then pee on me!

You can't get it in Oz?
Iodine is one of the best things to have when you have little kids.
With that and painkiller syrup (the stuff for when they have a fever) you can fix >95% of all issues.

EDIT: If you want I'll gladly send you a large bottle.

I do remember the time I was covered in vomit from my face to my belt.
Good times... :)

Congrats friend! My little girl was born just 10 days ago. She's beautiful and amazing, as I'm sure your little boy will be. Take care of your family, they are a precious gift!

Thank you all so much for the congratulations and tips on sleeping as much as possible now... and the warnings concerning the tidiness of our home, clothes and TV remote controls. This will be a great adventure and I must confess that I am a bit frightened. This is all very new to us and, in fact, we know nothing about babies.
If all goes as planned, I'll have a job (albeit an internship) right after the arrival of our son. But we know things will work out fine. Plus... sleep is overrated! ;)

I remember that fear too mate. You'll be right. That fear will pass and you'll wonder how come you didn't have kids sooner.


@Bruno, thanks for the offer of the iodine. They apparently decided to replace it with another product called Betadine that is just as good for the healing purposes that iodine is, but without the problems of allergic reaction in people with crustacean allergies. I still think Iodine was better. I'll survive without it though, thanks anyway.

Betadine is great as a desinfectant.
The great thing about idodine is that it is good to dry out rashes, and it does wonders on scabs to make them heal without leaving scars.
