I think the razor will be banned shortly. We should set up a razor refuge program where all the nice minty Sheffield razors can be sent to safe haven like Idaho. ;) The thought of them being confiscated and mented down by some very polite bobby make me want to write a very angry letter! Ahhh. I feel better now.
I have often wondered if in the US there
was a mass exodus to straight razors,
would Gillette lobby Congress for a ban?
I think Gillette would and our politicans would
be dirty enough to do it.

It is almost 20 years since the No Knife law was passed in Sweden. You cannot carry any knife without a good reason, i.e. hunter/fisherman, carpenter etc.
My police friend says it came about so cops could take meat cleavers and bayonettes from drug addicts downtown. But the politicians screwed it up so the result is No Knives. On the other hand if one behaves civilised the police won't have a reason to search you. There were some police that took a guy to court for having a Swiss Army multiblade. I asked my friend if they'd gone nuts but he said the police was as frustrated as the ordinary sitizen and wanted to have a precedent. Swiss Army and other short blade knives are OK if one behaves OK.
When it comes to guns Sweden is noooo gooood. When I was into blackpowder in the 90's before moving to Mongolia I sometimes thought of emigrating to the US. The thought of only have to wait a week for a gun seemed like paradise.
The militant vegans and other "don't kill animals"-groups work hard to ban any gun and we don't have a NRA. 40 some % of the population are hunters (if I remember right) but they also view owning handguns/sportguns as something suspect.
Lawmakers and common sense have nothing in common.

Depending on how you act, you could find yourself in the same boat even in the US. Some states do have laws about the size of the knife you can carry without it being considered a weapon. I don't think anyone should be hassled about carrying a pocket knife or penknife, though - that's just ridiculous.
As for gun control, I hope that given that Congress remained fairly conservative, they'll stay away from that issue. I agreed with Bill Maher (of 'Politically Incorrect') when he said one of the two things that the Democrats need to do is "don't mess with people's guns". (The second was, "and stay away from the gay marriage issue," but that's not aperpois to the topic. :))
I've never been a great fan of the UK's policy(-ies) on offensive weapons. I understand the desire to stop violent crime in society but think it is better served by allowing people to defend themselves, as criminals (by definition) have scant regard for the law. Politicians ought to remember that modern western democracies have justification in 16th-18th political theory; the father of which is Hobbes, who based EVERYTHING on a man's greatest interest being self-interest (in a broad sense of the term).
Anyhow, political rant aside, I would quite like a new knife that is actually going to be legal over here. That means a sub-3" blade, which does not lock. I want a wood/horn handle (no plastic, lightweight metals or carbon fibre!!!) and just one blade, of classic pen-knife shape. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Here in New South Wales it's been an offence to carry ANY knife on your person for several years without a valid reason. It doesn't matter how big, small or the construction:cen
A valid reason can be as simple as "I carry this small folding knife in my pocked so I can peel my orange at lunchtime" but it is very subjective and depends on the officer you are dealing with.
Also we have to apply to the police for a permit to purchase a firearm which involves a valid reason. It costs $30 and takes six weeks minimum to get permission - that's if you get it at all.

Yes, a lot of people are upset about the change in australias gun laws....but I have spent time in australia and in some of the remote areas, and I have seen some of the rather large and dangerous critters down there...screw a knife lol, I would at least want a shotgun!Quote:
