i have a knife just like that only with a yello handle, its a hawkbill utillity knife. good knife holds an edge fair. works great for stripping wires

Edit: People who work at sea & coastal enviroments have used tools made of carbon steel for centuries. Still do. With the larger blades (larger than razor), carbon steel is so much easier and faster to keep sharp than stainless. Rust is no problem. In the times of old tools were very expensive things, not something to throw away with first spots of rust. Usually they were personal property of the person who used them. Maritime law of the day forbade sailors from having a knife with a point. These knives were made extremely strong as they were used to cut ropes by being driven through rope with a wooden belaying pin.

Why no point Wullie?

It made incidents of sailors trying to stab each other a little more tolerable. If a sailor came on board with a pointed knife the captain of the vessal would have the point snapped off and hand the knife back to the sailor. Living in close confines would lead to some personality clashes that ended with violent results.

As soon as I'm mobile enough, I'll venture into the wreck I call a garage and grab a hoof cleaning knife that's out there. It's old, antler handle and I never have thought to look for mfg marks. It has a mostly straight blade, slight curve and the tip is wrapped to the side to leave the end with a wrong way bend on the end. Dad said that part was for cleaning the "frog" on the bottom of a horse's hoof? Wullie, reach into your knife bag and post a pic of the ones you have!!! lol
