Friday Follies

Started out peaceful enough.

Crew FINALLY got their ducks in a row and we got some pavement markings down. Bear in mind this isn't "paint".
It is hot applied thermoplastic. Goes on at around 350°F and becomes one with the pavement under it. ( unless it's on concrete )
My paint cart guy today was Beetlejuice.

Traffic got crazy so we dogged off around 1630 hours and I headed for the BIG city.

Ran up on this mess right after it happened.

Got home in a raging thunderstorm. Rain is welcome but it feels like a sauna outside now.
Cracked a beer at 1930 and called it a day.

Saw a few of those accidents while working on a road crew in college. I would just laugh my a$$ off at the dumb MF who caused it to happen!

Hurt and sitting out in 107 heat bites!! Hope they were ok!

2 out of three went for a ride in the meat wagon. They were all cognizant. The guy that got hit is wearing a purple shirt and sitting the rail in one of the pics.

At least they were in the shade. LOL

We were working about three miles from where that wreck occurred and had shut our deal down about 30 minutes prior to the crash.

I've seen worse than that. The guy running the rig did that to keep from tearing up his gun. I've seen 'em stripe over dirt and grass.......

I don't let 'em get away with it. ALL of the "long line" striping contractors in this area know that if they do that on my watch, they'll get to go back, remove the problem, grind off the bad line and re-do it.

I know most everyone has seen the mis-spelled SOTP on the pavement. I had a crew one day that laid out OLNY on the pavement instead of ONLY. I caught it before they put the heat to it and melted it down. That job was using pre-fab letters and all they do is lay 'em out and heat 'em with a big torch until they melt down.

This crew is pretty sharp. I've had 'em on other contracts and they know what I'll put up with and what I won't. Makes it a lot easier to get along that way.
