Cycling/Motorcycling Rain Gear

I live in Taiwan, and I don't have a car. I just ride around on a motorcycle. The Taiwanese aren't very serious about rain gear, preferring a convenient poncho to a raincoat and pants. Seeing as some of you are into cycling and motorcycling, you probably have some decent rain gear. The problem is, a lot of what you have access to probably isn't available here, but it's worth a try.

I'm looking for a decent raincoat and rain pants. Even something to cover my feet. Gore-Tex would be my last choice because of the ridiculous price. We have Columbia and Timberland here. Is their rain gear any good? If not, what suggestions do you have?

I match raingear to the activity. Riding a motorcycle I like something waterproof and snug, while on a bike I need it to breath or have major venting. Living where I do now I don't even worry about raingear because it has to rain first :p

I pretty much stopped bothering about rain gear years ago. I find that when it rains here, it is nearly always fairly muggy as well. Makes it very hot wearing rain gear and as a result you end up looking like you never wore it in the first place. You are soaked in sweat. However, when I did bother with it, I carried a one piece overalls type of rain suit by RIVET. I think I would recommend a two piece for ease and maybe some elasticated cuff plastic/rubber over boots.
What about that good old Aussie Icon, 'Drizabone' in a horsemans long coat. I use one of those on occassion when I'm outside stopping the pool from flooding the house and yard when it comes down in torrential downpours. Keeps me nice and dry when used with some sort of hat. A Sou'wester drizabone would do the job or any old decent fur felt hat with a decent brim.

We have ones like this somewhere in my garage, but have not used it much. I've already learned that leather keeps water relatively ok for few hours so rain doesn't really bother that much. In the end you get wet anyways. Part of the mc thing, imho.
Gore tex and such keep water well, but they are really hot. Some like it, some not. I rather get wet than sweat myself to death.
Some folks just use typical 2-piece rain suits that come cheaply from any general store.

I was a cyclist for many years, it is pointless trying to remain dry whilst cycling as you end up soaked with sweat as it can't evaporate if you wear rain gear. The trick is to wear cycle clothing (Yes tight fitting lycra), which whilst letting the water through, does not get uncomfortable or heavy.

Just an el-cheapo 2pc out of nylon Wetskins Waterproof 2-Pc Rainsuit, Navy | Canadian Tire worn over my regular riding gear. Rode through a tropical rainstorm for an hour and only a bit of my helmet lining got a bit wet.
