I will be upset with a lockout. Hockey is the only sport I prefer to watch in person instead of in front of a television without the confined spaces, need of binoculars and so on.... I was hoping to get to the Classic that is in my backyard this year at the University of Michigan Big House...

Has anyone studied the effect of the last lockout on other levels of hockey? In other words, when the NHL isn't active, do fans turn their attention to the AHL, CHL, WHL, etc? I'm planning on paying more attention to the 67s this year anyway, but would a lockout be a bonus for the other leagues? Or do fans just get pissed off and watch real sports like soccer? :rofl2:
Last time there was NHL lockout we got a lot of our players back. They were big names and the games were sold out (at least few first games were), but surprisingly they were not that much better players than those who play here. Of course there were some that were really good.Quote:

Interestingly KHL is the second largest league these days and it keeps growing bigger. There's big money & big names involved.
Used to play ice hockey when younger and maybe that is why i'm not so interested these days. The game style and cultures has changed so much from those days. Maybe i'm more like on-off. Watch few local games a year.
Maybe this is blasphemy in the NHL related thread but i'm more into Champions League (ex European Cup) these days.

The NHL has definitely changed since I last played! It has much more of a European style to it now. Gone are the days of merely skating up-and-down one's wing along the boards. Also, players are much better skaters now. Today's 3rd- and 4th-liners are the 2nd liners from years ago. Goals are down because they're now spread out among all 4 lines. 20 years ago 4th liners were merely PK guys. Now they get a regular shift.Quote:
