I'm a long-time (read: 28 years) Unix/Linux user. Having said that, I do run Win2K in a VM (virtual machine) under Linux Mint 11, in order to run my income-tax software, once-a-year.
It's a "necessary evil" -- like having an annual prostate exam: important to do, but you feel so much better when it's over. OTOH, some like it more often... I guess it's not much different, with Micro$oft products.
I absolutely HATE WIN7. We are forced to use it at work.
Currently running WIN2Kpro on one machine, and XPpro on this one.
With all the back door WINDOZE BS inherent in this system, I'm not interesting in updating to newer system with possibly even more BS in it just for the sake of "new and pretty."
Agree with you Wullie. Windows 8 look great. It just has about 1/2 the funcionality of Windows 7.
I've not heard any or enough good about 8 to convice me to leave 7.
I won't know if I'll like it or not until the Windows tablet comes out. Windows 8 was specifically designed for a touch screen, so I'll reserve judgment for a little while.:)
Come now, everyone knows that ever other Windows OS is equivalent to Windblows. They pull a Coke and Coke Classic on us constantly. Basically they think of things to do, release it as a new OS, do funtionality fixes, and release it as the next OS. By the law of Windows, Windows 8 will piss off everyone, and what ever 9 is called will quell the masses. I remember when this came out:

I've used every version of Windows from Windows 3.11. It's just a marketing ploy, just like stripy toothpaste. How many people marched en mass to their local toothpaste provider and demanded stripy toothpaste? If they didn't just keep on coming up with new and 'better' things for us to buy capitalism would fail...We're all just being led along my the nose...
I haven't tried Windows 8 and as I don't own a tablet I doubt I will. I'm far more interested in the news that Ubuntu 12.10 Beta is now available.
I went with Apple a couple of years ago... Less hassle.. I no longer spend my my time configuring a computer instead of working on it.
