2. I would disagree - nothing is "automatic" no matter what they are telling us. If "they" get their act together, and come to some kind of consensus, those "automatic" things can and will be taken off the table. It's the default - if they can't figure it out! You would think they would figure it out! Tools... but then I already stated I kind of hope they don't so the cuts do take place...

Edit - oh and 3. Obama is being a bit of a strong man. If you like him he's sticking to what he said - if you don't, well, he's being an uncooperative bully LOL :).

As a poor slob trying to eek out a living on a farm, I just want to point out that guys like me, and my neighbors, GET NO SUBSIDIES. We are small, we qualify for nothing. All those subsidies go to factory farms, not to the little guys. :mad:

I beg to differ on that. My neighbour down the road (dairy farmer) regularly receives such subsidies.

I know some accountants that might help :). Seriously though - are you classified as a "hobby farm?"

By the way - the "tax issues" that the republicans are being very stubborn about really means absolutely nothing! What's important is the base.

The tax base is what's being taxed, or rather what's counted as income. Income is revenue minus expenses, deductions and all exclusions. That is all that matters. For example if you make $100, and they raise the rates to say 90%... it sounds bad right? Not really. If I earn $100 and $99 of it is exempt, then sure... go ahead and tax my last dollar at 90%.

It might sound complicated but it's not really - but this whole tax rate issue is dumb! They are using it to convince "ignorant" people that they are doing is right for those who earn, when really... it's useless.


Seriously we are being manipulated! The whole rate thing is simple manipulation... Ask any accountant what the difference is between base and rates!

Loop-holes on the tax base is something that NEEDS to be addressed! ARG! This is killing me lol :).

Just thought this was funny - I was talking to my wife about this thread. She laughed and told me she e-mailed the White House three weeks ago telling them how to adopt better tax reform in a way very similar to the way I mentioned lol. :)

I love my wife! Bet Obama doesn't listen! Tool!

87 acres. I dont consider it a hobby. But bee keeping is certainly not "Dairy" and I dont know a farmer here in NY with under 150 acres who gets a subsidy.

Well I would need to know a bit more about your operation - but I am positive you get preferential property tax treatment. But from what I see - in NY State you can NOT game the man! Man they are ball-busters!

LOL, at least few people like you figure it out, the rest keep arguing in threads like this :)

All that's currently on the mass TV/media is propaganda from one side or the other for people who don't bother to/can't think, aren't particularly good at reading and math, or are too lazy to look for the facts.

If you look at the spending you'd surely be surprised how hard it is to cut stuff, because most people simply don't realize how much government freebies they get. Somehow they are blind to their own benefits, and think it must be somebody else who's getting all the bacon. Also wort noting is that most of the reasons for those 47% federal tax non-payers are republican policies. Just take a look at the deductions that allow those 47% to not pay taxes and how they came in place :)

And yeah, I'm in NY and it's a state with a long history of corruption and well developed skills to extract the money it wants. Also we subsidize states like Alaska and South Carolina, but that's part of the cost of being one country.
