Who needs regulations?

Hmmm......seems like things are gettin polarized here quick. But Just to use this as a devils advocate example. Tobacco.....Love to smoke my pipe. Is it bad for me. Well it can be. I take that risk knowingly as I am a free self thinking adult. Should the gov't regulate it. I think only to the point that they should make sure the Tobacco is pure and not enhanced with other chemicals to make it addictive like heroin. And as for the flavorings used in some..I think those flavorings should also be kept regulated to be more natural and not chemically loaded(ergo regulated to a point). And the prices should be regulated to be kept honest. Beyond that let me have my un adulterated tobacco and then let the law of nature,chance,genetics and my own usage do the rest. We can't make the world a test tube as we may have to find out the hard way I fear.People are gonna want and do their vices. The government should just be keepin it honest and as pure as possibel and butt out of the rest. As for corporations...seems once upon a time they were supposedly kept from becoming Monopolies so that competetive business could take place. And as for getting as big and powerful as they are ..why not put a cap on that somehow and make some of the profit go downward towards workers pocketbooks and fixup and repair of facilities instead of upward making corrupt politicians,presidents and business execs rich. Hey...I'm no economist so yeah,I don't have the answers and I may be way off..(just sayin before y'all tear me to shreds)...just my two cents from being a peasant. And as far as what poltical party is at fault ..stop being so polarized and look at the big picture. Seems like no ones gonna be happy till they can pin the blame on one political party and say there"told you so ". So.......as for helmet laws and such. Let nature thin the gene pool. If you drive unsafe and aren't watchin what your doin...pay the piper and lets get the population down some . It's either that or we better find another planet to ruin , I mean inhabit so we can expand like a fatmans waistline. Maybe we should split the world in two. Half being the regulated,scrutinized,under the microscope side and the other side being not that. That way...don't like it on this side...go to that side...or maybe someone should just press the candy like button and get it over with.......Okay,done now........have a nice day:chapeau

Tobacco is the perfect example as to why we should have regulations!!

Statistically speaking the majority of smokers are poor. Many poor people don't buy healthcare.

Making sure poor kids don't have access to a substance that is statistically proven to cause health issues when the majority of those smokers can't afford healthcare, is a great way to make sure we as tax payers aren't footing the bill LOL :)!!

Regulation rocks LOL.

Former Surgeon General of the USA, the late C. Everett Koop, was a pipe smoker. As surgeon general he made a real dent in tobacco use (cigarettes) but continued to smoke his pipe until age 86. He passed away at 96 years old.

Well ...you shouldn't be smoking at a young age...that's the parents job to monitor not the government's. I remember when healthcare was affordable(so you would buy it on your own accord).Personally I feel healthcare became unaffordable due to plain and simple corporate greed not consumer laziness. I've always felt..regulate the corporations to keep'em honest and leave us consumers alone and stop putting the blame on us as if it was all our fault. greed is the root of it. When people can afford it...they'll buy it. When they can't afford it they will cut a corner to survive.

P.S Like Han solo......never tell me the odds. I don't satistically speak as they mean nothing to me. too many of'em and to many polls and studies etc. etc. blah blah blah. If your into that sort of thing...more power to ya I suppose. I just go by life experience which may be different than yorn. But that's what I go by

Well I hear what you are saying and don't think I am picking on you but... it IS the governments job to monitor our kids. We said so when we created a public school system and SRS. And Gosh knows they should be MORE regulated. It's never ending and seriously - most of my posts contents are tongue and cheek - but ultimately, like you, I too believe in regulation.

Cigs as a more natural unchemically enhanced item are better of course than their chemically laden counterparts....but then again,it's the deep inhaling that's not good. Apples and oranges I suppose.............gonna go light up my pipe now tee hee !
