Original restore of Ashton & Jackson Improved silversteel 8/8
I bought this razor some time ago and waited to restore it because I wanted to use all of the original parts and I wanted to have a little more experience under my belt.
The before pics can be found http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ml#post1165033
I first stated by just trying to clean it up without unpinning it and failed miserably because there was so much built up gunk inside the scales I could hardly tell the original color. I built up the courage to unpin it only to find the one scale was cracked at the wedge. I decided to leave the crack alone. I hand sanded the scales to remove all of tarnish and build up. the bullseye washers were nice and the little bit of dirt in the wedge end washers I left to give it a little character. I polished the lead wedge and cleaned a little bit of the patina off of the blade. soaked the scales in neatsfoot oil and hand polished them.
I guess I feel a little proud of this one because its the first true restore I've done.
Your feedback is appreciated.
and now for the razor
