All the Curves All in Horn !!!!

Wade & Butcher "For Barber's Use" 8/8+

The Translucent Buffalo Horn is a thin .110" and the Faux Ivory wedge is .052" at the show end..

I got a PM the other day asking why I never post both the wedge sizes so they could tell how "Wedgy" it is ??? Basically that dimension is useless on any razor and scale build other than this one. I try and settle the razor into the scales a certain way, so that dimension would change with each razor and build... Just for an idea of what this one is, see the way the razor sits closed right at the notch??? to do that the wedge is the .052" at the outside end and the inside was .075.. So the wedge tapers down approximately .020 inches from front to back but again it really doesn't tell you much :shrug: but there I posted it so I hope it helps...

The steel was polished out to a SS Satin finish, and honed on the Chosera 1-5-10, with a Select Coticule finish...

I've always wondered: in your videos that I watched, you strop on crox and cerium (or cesium?) oxide. Do you also do so after the finishing hones you use after the Chosera honing?

:hmmm: How to answer that ????

You have to understand that those Vids are done step by step to let people have a clear concise path to the easiest way to get their razor to shave ready, they are only a teaching tool... After a few times through each person should develop their own touches to fit their style...

Basically what I do in those vids is not quite the same as what I do when honing everyday, so to answer your question, "It depends on the razor" :p

When I started doing restores back in 2006 I actually took my Calipers and Scale and sat down with about 20 Vintage razors and looked measured weighed and noted how they did things... I learned the whys and hows of what those old razor guys were doing... I learned about scale flex, matching tang angles with wedge angles, matching the size to the razor, and balance, many people think I make this stuff up, but honestly I just do the same thing that I learned by looking at, and measuring Vintage razors...

So to answer your question Yes I did originally weigh and measure, but now after a few thousand restores I do it by feel :p

Very nicely done. I have one similar and they shave so well.

She has curves in all the right places...

Myself and the other Restorists have taken the time to put together detailed plans and some have even done Vids on how to do everything we do.
The first place to start however is sitting at the table under a bright light with a Vintage razor and looking very closely at how it all functions and how it was all designed to do things in a very specific way.. Everything I know came from studying Vintage razors, the only things I came up with are little Tips and Tricks on how to do it easier and more consistently.. Also how to work the new materials vs the old style stuff...
