Finished second 7 day set "a study in horn" with this w&b 1" blade

So this is my second 7 day set: a study in horn... they mostly ended up looking similar but I learned alot about thinning material... I stole one from my previous 7 day set and replaced it with an acrylic scale razor so it matches that whole set... I love the randomness of horn and it's pretty soft to cut and easy to polish.... Definitely my scale material of choice from here on out! Crazy to think I just started this journey of learning to rescale this month ...

Wade and butcher 1" okay I'm lying it's 0.977 inches.. once again started way late in the night and done with all hand tools (dremel being only power tool) so as not to piss off my neighbors... black acrylic wedge, NiAg liners and hardware.. this is by far the most care I took in making scales.. making sure everything was correct..

Steps: coping saw--> hand file to shape--> Drill pin holes--> dremel to bevel edges --> up the sanding ladder--> hand shaped wedge with dremel dipping the wedge in water to keep heat down then added NiAg liners superglued on--> finish pinning--> polish... No centering issues with this one thank god!

2. Wade and butcher 13/16 celebrated in black horn and MOP kirinite wedge
3. Wade and butcher celebrated fine india steel black horn and translucent blue wedge
4. Federick hall 3/4 celebrated in honey horn and NiAg liners and hardware black acrylic liner
5. p. gueriton french razor in brown horn and white wedge
6. Wostenholm IXL celebrated 15/16 in honey horn brass hardware and white acrylic wedge
7. Wostenholm pipe razor 5/8 in honey horn and white acrylic wedge

Yup cvs has them in black blue and clear... U may have to go to a couple cvs pharmacies to find them... I had to go to two to find two of them and I work for cvs.. Maybe office max has them too ... Got the inspiration as I was walking out the door at the end of my shift getting ready to go to a cigar shop to buy an empty cigar box...

I was just looking at some pen cases because of this post, Amazon has some nice ones.

Just before I indulged my need for instant gratification though, I thought about the different ideas around storage. Right now, all my razors are in silicone socks, in order for them to function as specified, they need to be not in an sealed space, so that any potential moisture can be drawn away from them.

So, having them in an enclosed case would defeat that. On the other hand, I could put them in the case with a 40 gram silicone canister to also ensure a moisture free environment.

Decisions, decisions...something else now to take me down the razor worm-hole....:hmmm:

I will say this... The seal is not air tight so air can escape and the clear panels are not sealed into the frame just riveted on so air can escape around there... A couple of silica packets and you shouldn't have a problem... The fabric is polyester so it doesn't absorb much water

I eventually plan on making a plate to replace the branded plate on top and have it engraved with my initials or the korean word for horn (bc I'm korean) or my name in korean... Haven't decided

You could also carefully drill some small ventilation holes into the box, around the edge of the perspex maybe

I chose a Humidor, because they are supposed to help regulate a steady environment. Humid environment if you are keeping Cigars in there. However, without a source of moisture, I figured it would help maintain a dry environment as well.
I have had 2 dozen blades in there for almost 3 years without wiping with oil, and I see no signs of pitting/rust etc. I do let the blade air out overnight on top of the box after drying it well manually. (I shave at night) In the AM I put it away. Of course, I had let the box dry in the first place when I bought it.
I recently added a few silicon gel dry packs, just for extra measure.
Incidentally, I also went and looked at pen cases after this post, but wound up back at Humidors. Seemed to me a less expensive option.

Yeah I wanted something that can display the razors... Plus with my cvs discount this only cost me 7 dollars.. have a huge humidor but use a multi drawer took chest for my knives and razors... I feel like cedar is a good environment for keeping things so humidors are great as long as you air it out

Starting to think the two large wooden cigar boxes I picked up for free (guy in the cigar store told me to take as many as I wanted), leaving the tops of the boxes open with the razors in their silicone socks works fine...think I'll actually take some time to think about this some more...this is a good thread!

I got them from Superior Shave:

This is an effective anti-rust solution for a lifetime; it is not merely a barrier prohibiting entry of moisture, but rather a tool which continually draws moisture from the inside to the outside; think of it as creating a reduced-humidity 'fog' within and beyond the razor, and the more arid the environment in which the razor's stored the bigger the foggy area. Simply store the straight razor inside and leave in the open so that the moisture wicked away from the interior to the exterior can evaporate.

Made for decades by hand in the USA by various American firms for the firearms industry (known as "gun sleeves", "silicone cloths", etc. etc.), these particular oil-and-silicone-treated-cotton sleeves are from 100% USA materials/labor and make oiling steel within potentially irrelevant. The makers say to not oil the steel for any razor stored inside the sleeve, for this can seal moisture under a film of oil (they've also decreed that if one insists on using both sleeve and oil, use a product which allows evaporation-by name they recommended Ballistol).
