Yeah, most likely never was anything else on the tang... Though it really does look to me like the tang was reground. I'd bet it was a bit wider, originally.
I've seen one other like yours (and it's a lot like yours, identical stamp, size and blade shape, but different scales).
... I'll definitely be bringing some brass & ni/cu rod, the annealing torch and my hammers to the SoCal meetup. Gotta take care of some of your backlog. ;)

Just the history behind this razor makes it awesome! Just think that that razor is almost as old as the United States!
In my mind your absolutely right...the history behind collecting these old razors is what is most interesting. I love that fact that I can shave with a razor that someone else used almost 200 years ago. I always wonder: what was his life like? What did he care about? What did he do for a living? Was this razor passed down father to son for generations? So many interesting questions... Fascinating!
