Golden Union Cutlery

As some of you already know, I'm a huge fan of Union Cutlery razors. I especially love their wedges with translucent green scales. The Gold Aro, Golden Wedge, and Gold Spike take the cake in my book! I hope you all enjoy what I consider are the finest examples of these models.
Mr. Mark Yundt aka mycarver aka super talented dude is the man behind these restorations. He may be able to add additional info and some before/after shots for you all to see. The gold on the tang and spine is hard to see in these photos but looks amazing in person!

Bongo, I like Union wedges because they're smooth silent shavers. Hard American steel. On top of that the green with gold accents looks pretty awesome!

The original Spike was basically gone. So what I did was to take a Spike from my collection and modify it to match the shape of the original razor.
I had to adjust the length a bit. The spine was way too thick as you can see by the distance from the bottom edge to the lettering on the shaft. I also had to thin out the tail quite a bit as well to match the shape.
Once this was done I polished the blade, shaft and plated it. On this razor the plating is only on the shaft /tail area.

On the Wedge it covers the shaft/tail and continues across the spine and around the tip.

Union Cutlery Co of Olean, NY later became KABAR. It was one of the few "old line" American houses that stood the test of time. Still in operation today and owned by CUTCO.

The biggest majority of the old cutlery houses went down with the depression and never came back.

Beautiful restores by a truly talented craftsman and artist.

Josh - I have changed my mind and I would like to have that Gold Aro back. If it makes it easier for you, I will pay the postage.

In an era when big chunks of steel seem to rule the market the shot of those 3 sleek beauties is really refreshing. Beautiful work.

I personally stopped in at the Wyomissing Barber Shop Wednesday to see Josh and I got to see these razors first hand (eye)!

Mark did a beautiful restoration job as he always does. Josh is obviously dedicated to preserving the art of straight razor shaving and I am glad that I know him. I've always enjoyed hanging around barber shops since I was a young kid.....:rock:

I stopped in to see josh yesterday And these photos definitely don't do them justice. They look amazing. I can guarantee they didn't look near that nice brand new.

WBS-After hearing about these legendary shavers firsthand, I just snagged a nice Gold Spike off the bay for a good price. Looks to be close to a wedge grind. I can't wait to get it and try it out!
