Some time ago I made the first predator razor in pattern welded steel. At the same time I was developing a number of variations in tool steel. They all look similar, but with slightly different design. This is the first one. It is (nearly) identical to the pattern welded one, but in tool steel. The scales are kirinite midnight blue

When someone opts for kirinite on a vintage razor I cringe....but on an original razor done by a craftsman....sweet!
I agree. Kirinite and G10 are wonderful materials (actually G10 is horrible stuff and I don't use it but the end result is great) but they are modern materials. I wouldn't want to put it on a vintage razor. Modern razors otoh can use modern materials. And they come in enough colors and types that you can find a good choice for any kind of design.Quote:

Very nice. I have been meaning too ask whenever I see someone make a razor from O1 or D2 if you find tools steels more prone to chipping than the more simple carbon steels since tool steels usually are harder.
Not at all. I think O2 is the best tool steel in the world for the purpose of razors. It hones smoothly, doesn't chip, and doesn't warp.Quote:

I also prefer O2 to O1 because imo it gives a nicer edge, and is also easier to work after heat treatment because the tungsten in O1 makes it more abrasion resistant.
