This is the second French razor I planned on doing. This is the fourth carved razor for an ultimate set of 7.
The blade was missing parts of the script so I etched them back in place. While working on the blade I decided to add a little detail to it. So I did the "file work" to the spine.
Small as they are they came out nice and crisp. They graduate in size as they go from tip to tail. Also the spine, shaft and tail on this piece is a continuous taper so the design tapers as well.
For the scales , in the tradition of the last razor for this set, I carved them. I drew out a design, made templates, carved them and decided to inlay a Paua shell for interest. This stuff really sparkles with color shifts. I also added some scrimshaw for a bit of decoration. I have gone back and freshened up the scrim a bit more as some was lost with waxing the piece.
The wedge is lead ( old school ) that I made from a .45 bullet. Brass pins keeps it all together. Attachment 192316Attachment 192317Attachment 192318Attachment 192319
