Anchor stamped Wade & Butcher
A rare anchor stamped Wade & Butcher. The anchor trade mark is most often seen on razors attributed to George Brittain, another Sheffield maker. Could there have been some type of manufacturing agreement between the two makers? The stamp seems to only have been used on earlier large near wedge ground blades. This blade measures just under 8/8 and was extremely pitted when received. The scales are copies of the originals in black horn with a lead wedge and brass beehive collars and pins . Some work progression pictures are included. It was decided to use a crocus finish on the blade and a glazed finish on the tang. Pitting on the tang was too deep to remove without effecting the makers stamp and the glazed finish helps mask the flaws.
