8/8 wootz monster in mammoth scales

This razor was handforged according to my Monster design. I handsanded it to a mirror polish and then etched it in Nital instead of ferric chloride. The wootz Steel was smelted by Evrahim Baran. This makes the pattern appear with a lot more contrast. I am very happy with how the pattern turned out. Originally I was going to sell the blade separately but the customer asked me to put fossil mammoth tusk scales on it.

I've added close up pics of just the blade hollows to better show the reveal of the pattern.

Thank you for the close ups. The steel has really cool patterns that is hard to see in the regular pictures. Another beauty.

Please, what is the blade width and the spine thickness?

The blade is 8/8+
The spine thickness is just over 7 mm (over 5/16)

Absolutely beautiful Bruno, just out of interest what's the mammoth tusk like to work with, is it brittle? Cheers Ed.

brittle is the wrong word. It is pretty strong and tough.
However it is very easy to abrade and it is easy to leave deep scratch marks.
The one thing you have to be very careful with is heat. Get it too hot while sanding and you get permanent discoloration.

Cheers Bruno, it's definitely a material that I would like to have a go at, but it is just so expensive here in the uk that I would not want to mess it up thanks Ed.

You can use etching liquid that computer guys use to etch their motherboards. That helps make a great contrast to Damascus steel.

That would be ferric chloride. works great on damascus, not so much on wootz.
