On this day in 1775 the finest fighting force the world has ever known was born in a tavern in Philadelphia. To celebrate the birth of the United States Marine Corps I wanted to restore this Clauss USMC. It was in fair condition with some discoloration and light pitting. Most of the pitting came out but there were a couple of stubborn spots on the back of the blade. I spent a fair amount of time on the sleeveless sanding drum and some 220 grit until in finally started to look nice and clean. I then worked up to 800 grit and polished with Dialux green compound. The scales sanded easily and shined up quickly on the buffer.
Happy birthday Marines and Semper Fidelis.
