Three Sheffields dressed in wood
Just finished the restoration on these three old Sheffields. I decided to dress all three in wood vice horn. I do like the look and feel of word and it is probably the easiest medium to work on, especially stabilized wood. Left and right are stabilized Spanish cedar from old cigar boxes. The center is old black bog oak. Used camel bone for wedges on all three. Left is a Joseph Smith & sons and used replica brass dome washers. Center is a Wm Greaves & sons which I had to regrind due to significant rust issues. As a result it lost most of its identity on its tang. It has the fancy rosette brass washers. Saved the Boston Razor logo on the blade. Still looks like a classic Greaves from Sheaf works to me. Right is a nice old Wm Tillotson. Had to remove some steel as well but retains its logo and beauty marks. It has the small brass cup washers. Just to share. Thanks for looking. Austin
