8/8 D.C. Halsted with fancy ground toe.

This 8/8 hollow ground blade was cracked at the toe where the barbers notch ends and about 1/4 inch into the blade face. The blade was shortened 1/8th of an inch and the crack removed right at the end of the barbers notch. This still left the blade a full 3 inches from the back of the heel to the end of the toe. Typical blade lengths are 3 to 3 3/16 inches. The decorative toe was copied from a W & B FBU which I have in my collection. The blade is restored in a glazed finish and now has a nice thin even bevel. Shortening the blade necessitated making new black horn scales with a lead wedge and brass beehive collars. The original scales and collars will find a new hone on an appropriate blade.

The master at work-Just wow, Karl. I rescaled a Crown and Sword recently that has that toe design (though I sure didn't grind it!). You can see the top of it here.
