This razor was a struggle to deconstruct. The collars were flattened and everything seemed welded together.

To my suprise the inside of the scales were showing red. This means that they dyed scales red around 250 years ago.

Dying scales Red/Green/Black using olden techniques is something i have been figuring out for a few years now. The recipe is pictured below.

I have yet to restore the edge . Hopefully i can get a good shave from it. I am a little confused at the extra letter on the end of the makers mark...

You can reshape the collars with a Doppler's block.

Looks like you got them re domed, looks good. On large collars be sure to use fitted backers. You can make and adjust backer height, with the doming block.

Try Fiebing’s Alcohol leather dye on the bone. Fiebing’s original is an aniline dye in alcohol. It works very well on leather and wood, comes in a variety of colors, and can be mixed for custom colors.

They do make a Pro dye, but they call it an Oil Dye, I have never used it but there are more colors.

They also make a water base dye, which does not perform as well as Alcohol.

You can also buy Aniline dyes in liquid and powder from StewMac or good woodworking tool suppliers and mix your own.

I have all that gear and then some :) .... I have learnt the hard way that old collars must be gently tapped back into shape, a good whack and they will split. They are just for show really because it is my backing collars that take all the strain.. I do like to use 1.8mm pins on these old models too ..

I dont think i will ever dye bone, i think it is perfect being white..That recipe is for bone & horn..

I would think it to be a Revitt with an overzealous hammer wielder who hit the edge of the(rearward-leaning) die under the letter t.....

But then I have heard of and seen pics of Revitt razors. William I think?

Boy, that's old. Small wonder I had not seen one!
His has only one L.. Stamped on Friday?

Yes the double L is confusing.
You can tell the really old ones because the tang area is so crude.

I was thinking they may have dropped an L after finding the L stamp was wearing out before the others? :D
