DD Satinedge restored by gssixgun!

Hello Gentlemen.
I sent a razor out to Glen (gssixgun) for restoration because I am not able enough yet to salvage the scales on a razor, or fix uneven hone wear...and I can certainly not do what Glen does with razors.

I received my razor in the mail today,

My jaw dropped to the floor. I was blown away! :bow

Here are the original pictures of the razor...it was in terrible shape with uneven hone wear and the blade was not centered...well the pictures speak for themselves (it was ugly):

These pictures are terrible by the way...they don't do the razor justice...my LCD is broken on my camera so I can't see the menu part to turn the flash on...I'll try and get some better pictures up if I figure it out...but man Glen! Thank you so much for restoring this for me! It is one of the few razors I will definitely keep!

Once the uneven part of the hone wear was cleaned up that razor took to the hones like a, well duck to water :D

As to Doc's question, about what to use to get the clear scales back to sorta clear, the trick is in the automotive section again...
There are several products there, that are made to clean up plastic headlamp covers of scratches etc: Well if used carefully they will clear up the mess on scales too.... Warning!!!!!! Note that I said carefully.... this is not a beginner trick, you need to try this first on old crap broken scales first, to get the hang of it......

I've got a Red point in similar condition , it's honed up and shaves great but the blade looks like a piece of c**p ........

I need to get the tools and the skills to get it into the condition of that Ducky ..

Excellent work glen ,looks Great ,did u remove the scales or did u do all the work with scales on.The reason i am asking i have a wonder edge that is in overall good condition but needs to be cleaned up a little.I am saving this razor for now until i have a little more experience in restoration.I know that repining scales is looked down on but my the blade hits the scale a little on mine unless i guide it in.

That must be a common issue with DDs. I have 2 that hit scales on the way in, and I have a friend that has one that does the same.

DD scale warp is a very common issue in fact Allen's was hitting the scales badly when I started on it, right now it is JUST barely missing them...
This restore was scales on, to keep it all original....
As to popping pins, you have to make that decision hands on, this DD was cleaned up under the pivot pin with dental floss (yes Allen that's how I did it :) ) Bet your wondering how I got the insides of the scales polished :roflmao :roflmao
I personally don't pop pins unless I am going to toss the scales, but that is just me it's not a rule, just an opinion....
Original restores keeping the razor in one piece are way more time intensive then, popping them apart and starting from scratch...
