Black Demon 5/8 in Figured Kauri
Always wanted a Red Imp but settled on a Black Demon instead. :)
This is an eBay score that had some spine pitting but blade body was not too bad .
Lucky, considering the warning on the box that reads
"This RAZOR being a fine temper and ground very thin, should be handled carefully as no broken Razors can be exchanged.
Instils confidence for budding restorers don't it ?
Anyway some careful handsanding & some even more careful buffing and the razor came out in one piece. :D
Spine & tang were originally blackened so I recreated the look with some blueing paste after taping off the blade body. A bit of metal polish brought the blue back to a grey.
Decided on scales in some recycled Kauri floorboard. A common flooring for 1930's Sydney houses. Not so common today. :(
Didn't have much Acetone to remove the "Demon" logo so boiled up some water & peeled him off as the 'cell' scales warped. Glued him on with some CA after establishing a base finish. A whole lot of fun with CA, Dremel and automotive cutting compound - yet I still hate CA.
Love the Kauri tho. Standard cliche applies here - 'Photos do not do this timber justice".
A 'thank you' to Glen & Dan for their recent 'Grim Reaper' post. The pics especially helped my brain get a handle on what to do.
