Here is my take on a DePews razor, I wanted a bigger DePews.
The blade is made of an old file, the scales are maple with a bone spacer.
The razor shaves really well.
My wife said it looks like an elf shoe, but I like it anyway.

Nice big blade! BTW your wife is right!
Elf shoe ?
To me it looks like some SWEET work with incredible results !
Gorgous work. Thats really cool that you are able to make something like that completely from scratch
I'd say you could certainly sell those very easily ;)
PS... the scales are really beautiful too by the way. The whole fit and finnish is way beyond what I would have expected.

DAMN!!!.... that razor RedLine my RAD... even MY wife couldn't stop staring at it (and you know she don't think much of straight razors). Once again you take the crown with a true 5 star razor.
Fantastically artful and stylish razor.
Every component and colours complete each other and augment the impact.
Wonderful work,
McKie
It is elf shoe-esque, but it's also awsome! Nice job

Very cool! The maple is gorgeous. How did you finish it?
Thanks to everybody for the kind words, You guys are very encouraging.
Nope, it was an old Nicholson file. It is the other half of the file that my RBI razor was made from.
I used the same finishing schedule as I used on this page except I used an aerosol lacquer instead of CA.

That is gorgeous. I love the DePews, but I love your design and take even better! Congrats on a great blade.
Great job Charlie. Nice curves all over.
Elf shoe maybe... but it 'dwarfs' the DePews.
Great job! Your scale design is better, IMO, than the stock ones seen on the original DePew's.
Thats superb . If you start making those for sale, please put me in line for one .Its an instant love affiar.Paul
I like this one a lot, awesome job!
Another razor maker in our midst?
Great job - that's fine work, especially with that really delicate monkey tail.

That looks great! It must feel very satisfying to shave with something you've made.
What's the process like once you've shaped the blade, do you have to harden it again?
I'd love to have a go.:tu
Thats really funny
No, not a razor maker just a tinkerer.
I more of less followd the process that JoshEarl has outlined.

- normalized twice, heated to nonmagnetic then let air cool
- heated till nonmagnetic then a little more then quenched in pre heated oil
- tempered in my toaster oven.
- ground blade to size
I am a noob to this and still learning.
