Boker Good as Gold
Hey eveyone, here is my latest project.. It's a Boker with "good as gold" etched on the blade. This one has some cool looking scroll/leaf pattern on the faux ivory handles. It was pretty dirty when I got it.. so I'll include pics showing how I cleaned it up.
Here are some before pics.

I started by giving the whole thing a quick rub down with maas.. it was ok, but to get into all of the cracks I had to use some special tools

I cut the toothbrush bristles very short so they'd be stiffer.. works very well for small cracks like on these scales (on some jimps too).
The little dental flosser with the pick end did wonders here (used the floss around the pins, washers, and pivot). I wrapped some cloth around the pick end with some maas in order to get between the scales.

After a bit of elbow grease it cleaned up well

Going to leave this one vintage instead of going for a mirror blade... I like the patina, so after the hones.. this one goes into the rotation.
enjoy!
ps. the first picks suck because they are from my phone... I always forget to take before pics until I have my tools out. I remembered and didn't want to go set up the camera...sorry about that

I like the patina too. Very good choice and nice work! Thanks for your pics.

Good call. Not everything old needs to shine like new!
Nice clean up on the scales.

You did clean that one up like a real pro.
And better leave as is cause you'll probably end up loosing most of the engraving/etching.

Stellar work. You made the right call in leaving it vintage. It's a keeper for sure.

Well done on those scales & +1 on keeping the patina.
Great to see an honest workhorse.

You cleaned that one up pretty good...
Enjoy your shaves!

Very nice! I'm not usually a fan of patterned scales, but they look great!

I definitely agree leave as is now. it loogs great, what a refurbish that was. I have some very stiff bristled nylon brushes for gun cleaning type things, and hadn't thought about cutting down bristles on my toothbrushes (I keep all toothbrushes). that's a good idea man. I have reshaped them to make certain shapes. I'll have to play with cutting the bristles now.
